Today my dear friend and colleague, Jim DeMint, turns 71.

In honor of his birthday, I wanted to share a few things you may not know about him…
* Jim founded CPI in 2017 because he experienced firsthand as a member of Congress what Washington does to conservatives who try to do the right thing. He created an organization that can help them withstand the pressure.

* Jim ran his own marketing firm in Greenville, S.C. before coming to Congress.

* He loves sailing, and he thinks about the fight to advance conservative policies in terms of piloting a sailboat: “If you know how to set your sails, you can use an opposing wind to get where you want to go.”

* He founded the Senate Conservatives Fund, the group that helped elect heroes like Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Tom Cotton.

* He met with Donald Trump when he was still a candidate in 2016 and agreed to share with him a list of judges (who included Brett Kavanaugh) who could be nominated to the Supreme Court if he were elected president. The rest is history.

* Jim is an author of several books, most recently, Satan’s Dare, which takes a deep dive into Biblical truth and answers many of the challenging questions about good and evil.

CPI Partners Respond to FBI Raid of Mar-a-Lago

Immediately after the FBI’s brazen raid on Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8, CPI partner groups came together to zero in on what needed to be done next.
* Center for Renewing America suggested that Congress form a committee similar to the 1975 Church committee ([link removed]) , which investigated abuses by federal intelligence agencies. This idea was immediately echoed by Rep. Kevin McCarthy and others on social media.

* America First Legal launched an investigative blitz ([link removed]) of the DOJ, the FBI, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the IRS.

* The American Accountability Foundation began investigating communications such as text messages, emails, and phone calls between administration officials and others in the days leading up to the raid.

* State Freedom Caucus Network quickly joined the House Freedom Caucus in condemning the action.

Congressional Staff Retreat

A congressional staff assistant is the first face that greets constituents, answers phone calls, arranges Capitol tours, and manages front office operations.

A staff assistant who knows how to effectively communicate to constituents and handle multiple office operations is a valuable asset to any office. An assistant role is also a stepping stone to even more influential staff positions–like legislative director or chief of staff.

To get these junior staffers off to a strong start with a solid grounding in procedure and principle, CPI recently hosted a special training retreat at our “conservative Camp David” in Maryland.

The retreat included interactive sessions led by seasoned conservatives in the movement on House Rules, congressional writing strategies, and policy and communications.

American Moment

American Moment Graduates New Class of American Statecraft Fellows

CPI partner group American Moment identifies and educates young Americans who will implement public policy that supports strong families, a sovereign nation, and prosperity for all–with an eye for staffing up the next administration.

American Moment’s Fellowship for American Statecraft organizes and places fellows at an internship on Capitol Hill or in the public policy sphere in Washington, D.C., where they develop on-the-job skills and early career credentials.

In August, 12 young conservatives graduated from the American Statecraft Fellowship. These fellows learned the foundations of public policy across American Moment’s issue priorities, and heard from thought leaders including Heritage Foundation President Dr. Kevin Roberts, pictured below.

The American Principles Project has released its Top 25 Threats to the American Family ([link removed]) , which includes insight from Rachel Bovard, who leads CPI’s Digital Defense Initiative, on the threat posed by Google:

“Google’s commoditization of children for cash is hardly its only problem. Google’s platforms, particularly YouTube, are consistently on the hook for mainlining disturbing, sexualized content to kids.”

Bovard is a source of guidance and perspective on issues relating to Big Tech, and is frequently asked for her input by members of Congress, staff, state attorneys general, and even governors.

CPI partner Election Integrity Network (EIN) is bringing citizens together to be election integrity watchdogs to ensure that when Americans cast their votes, they can be confident that their ballots are safe. Cleta Mitchell is using CPI Studios to inform millions of Americans about how they can help build a permanent infrastructure in key states to secure our elections.

You may have seen Cleta Mitchell on Steve Bannon’s War Room and Outside the Beltway with John Fredericks, where she discussed some of the ways EIN has prepared for the upcoming election. She discussed EIN’s training videos and theCitizens Guide to Building an Election Integrity Infrastructure ([link removed]) , which outlines how we can reclaim free and fair elections by getting involved in local and state election systems.

Also from CPI Studios, the Election Integrity Network’s Ned Jones recorded a training video about citizen involvement in monitoring the USPS Election Mail System. The USPS handles more ballots than any precinct in the country, so it’s important we monitor their election activities just like any other precinct.
