House Freedom Caucus members, U.S. Senators, and dozens of CPI partners gathered at D.C.’s Intercontinental Wharf hotel on Sept. 19 and 20 to discuss priorities for CPI and the conservative movement in 2023.
Senators in attendance included Ron Johnson, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Mike Braun, and Rand Paul. Panelists and speakers discussed policy priorities for the first 100 days of the 118th Congress.
During one session, panelists responded to the question of what single policy priority they’d like to see achieved in the first 100 days:
- “Break up Big Tech.” – CPI Senior Policy Analyst Rachel Bovard
- “Start a national debate in the House on Critical Race Theory as fundamentally unAmerican.” – Center for Renewing America President Russ Vought
- “Balance the budget.” – Senator Rick Scott, FL
- “Reinstate the Holman Rule [to reduce the salary of, or fire, specific federal employees, or cut specific programs].” – Congressman Ralph Norman, SC
Another priority mentioned throughout the conference, and during a surprise call-in from President Trump on day two, was investigating the FBI and other federal agencies that have been weaponized and politicized under President Biden, along with stopping the current lawlessness at the southern border.
