September 30, 2022 Dear John, This week, I've been working to bring awareness to the very grave threats that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to U.S. national security, freedom, and democracy around the world. I sent a letter to Biden Administration officials urging them to get to the bottom of a troubling report that a CCP-aligned company may be attempting to compromise a U.S. Air Force Base. I also met with military service members, law enforcement officers, and local education officials. I am always inspired by the commitment of our Orange County community members to making this the best place to live, work, and raise a family. We Can't Trust the CCP The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a list of human rights abuses as horrific as it is long. As a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, I’ve been working with my colleagues to bring awareness to the threats posed by the CCP, and to develop policy recommendations on how to counter their aggression and influence. Recently, there have been highly troubling reports of a CCP-linked company attempting to purchase land near Grand Forks U.S. Air Force base in North Dakota. The base has significant strategic military and intelligence capabilities. I joined Rep. Carlos Gimenez and 49 of my other Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to urge them to address this national security risk. We know the CCP cannot be trusted, and a CCP-allied corporation shouldn’t be allowed to purchase land near a U.S. military installation. The Administration must take action immediately to prevent the CCP from compromising U.S. strategic assets.
