Dear John,

This week, I've been working to bring awareness to the very grave threats that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to U.S. national security, freedom, and democracy around the world. I sent a letter to Biden Administration officials urging them to get to the bottom of a troubling report that a CCP-aligned company may be attempting to compromise a U.S. Air Force Base.

I also met with military service members, law enforcement officers, and local education officials. I am always inspired by the commitment of our Orange County community members to making this the best place to live, work, and raise a family. I am grateful to each of them for sharing their ideas for progress with me, and for giving back to our friends and neighbors.

Make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.
We Can't Trust the CCP
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a list of human rights abuses as horrific as it is long. As a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, I’ve been working with my colleagues to bring awareness to the threats posed by the CCP, and to develop policy recommendations on how to counter their aggression and influence.

Recently, there have been highly troubling reports of a CCP-linked company attempting to purchase land near Grand Forks U.S. Air Force base in North Dakota. The base has significant strategic military and intelligence capabilities. I joined Rep. Carlos Gimenez and 49 of my other Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to urge them to address this national security risk.

We know the CCP cannot be trusted, and a CCP-allied corporation shouldn’t be allowed to purchase land near a U.S. military installation. The Administration must take action immediately to prevent the CCP from compromising U.S. strategic assets.
It was great to catch up with Orange County Board of Education President, Dr. Lisa Sparks, to talk about ways we can make sure that OC kids are getting the best education possible. Thanks for visiting, Lisa!
I was honored to join Optum for a celebration of their newly renovated health & wellness center in Seal Beach. Thank you to all who made this project a success & are working towards a healthy & happy OC community!
Iran protests over young woman's death continue...

The ongoing persecution of their own people by Iran’s leaders is horrific. I stand with the Iranian American community in California and with the brave men and women who are exercising their right to speak up in the face of persecution.

I had a great time kicking off the West Coast Support Canine Conference hosted by Garden Grove PD & Guide Dogs of the Desert. I was happy to meet police from across the country who came to Garden Grove to train their support dogs & I am especially proud of my friends, Officers Juliene, Link, Misha & Nellie, for working to keep us safe!
I was honored to attend the Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos Air Show this week and to spend some time with our amazing service members. Seeing the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds was truly special, and I am so thankful for the men and women who serve our country, as well as those who made this event so wonderful.
Apply for the 2022 Congressional App Challenge
My office is now accepting submissions for the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps. This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field.

Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.

The CAC is open to 6th - 12th grade students residing in or attending school in California’s 48th District. Teachers and/or students should verify their eligibility with our office by calling (714) 960-6483.
