What I Wish I Said When My Kid Asked "What's Wrong With Her Face" In Public
[[link removed]]
We’ve all had those moments where your kid asks something absolutely mortifying
in public — at the absolute top of their lungs, of course. Alexandra Frost’s kid
demanded to know what was “wrong” with a stranger’s face, and she immediately
shushed him. But it got her thinking: “It made me curious about experts’ ideas
on ‘best practices’ for dealing with these types of comments, and walking the
line of being polite, not commenting on others’ bodies and actions and more, but
also learning from the environment around them.”

Give it a read for some helpful tips about what to do the next time your kid
chooses the worst possible time as a teachable moment. Good luck out there,

Kelly Faircloth, Executive Editor

How to practice self compassion and give yourself a break as a parent
[[link removed]*tty_parent&utm_term=9_29&utm_session=ff0cac62-f9d6-47a7-b646-ec2735e9e03b]
It’s easy to tell your kids to “be nice” when they’re fighting with a sibling,
but it’s much harder for parents to take their own advice and be nice to
themselves. Raising kids is chaotic in the best of times, which makes it easy to
feel like you’re always doing something wrong. Of course you think you’re doing
a sh*tty job sometimes. Every parent does.

But there is a way to feel like less of a sh*tty parent. Practicing
self-compassion, connection, curiosity, and kindness is key, and Dr. Carla
Naumburg, author of You Are Not a Sh*tty Parent and How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t
With Your Kids, can show you how.

You Are Not a Sh*tty Parent is the ultimate guide for parents who need to give
themselves a break. It’s full of tangible steps you can take to reduce your
anxiety, trust your instincts, move past mom guilt, and become a calmer, more
confident parent.

Raise Your Hand If Your Kid Has Suction Cupped Something To Their Face Before
School

Continuing on the theme of kids and their absolutely terrible timing, Samm
Davidson has a story about the time she had to send her kid to school with what
looked like a giant hickey goatee on his face: “On his face, above his mouth and
all down his chin — like a goatee — was a perfectly circular, purple-ish red
bruise. And I mean, perfectly circular. As if he went to the local wellness
clinic for a cupping session. I was dumbfounded. How the….?!” There’s absolutely
no way you’ll guess how he did it.
