September is National Suicide Awareness Month, a time to highlight the growing public health crisis and share information about the resources available to help address it. We're proud that Washington has led the way in creating evidence-based interventions to help reduce firearm suicide. But 2021 saw the highest number of firearm suicides on record, highlighting how much work we have left to do.

NAMI WASHINGTON
On September 17th, we were invited to host a panel discussing the intersection between gun violence and mental health at the NAMI Washington Conference in Olympia. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including Extreme Risk Protection Orders, the risks of firearm ownership, and safe storage. Learn more: [link removed]

MYTH BUSTING
The gun lobby is adept at distraction, misinformation, and fear-mongering—whatever it takes to make people complacent in the fight to end gun violence. We are continuously working to arm you with the facts and help debunk the most common gun violence myths. Get the facts: [link removed]

SAFER SCHOOLS
In case you missed it, Alliance CEO Renée Hopkins and Grandmothers Against Gun Violence Chair Margaret Heldring published an op-ed about actions we can all take to keep our schools and communities safe. Read it: [link removed]

SAFE STORAGE SAVES LIVES
Reps. Jayapal (WA-07) and Curtis (UT-03) introduced a bill to help reduce gun suicides by allowing people to voluntarily and proactively place themselves onto a “do not sell” list. This innovative policy was first adopted in Washington, and it's time for the other Washington to follow suit.  Take action: [link removed]
