Racing to save the Amazon rainforest: [link removed]

John, your support has enabled groundbreaking research to be carried out on the biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest, which still remains understudied.

We worked with scientists, journalists and researchers to collect vital evidence of plant and animal species in the region. In this video, Greenpeace Brazil campaigner, Cris, tells us how returning to the Amazon rainforest and witnessing its splendour renews our strength to fight against the destruction and violence: [link removed]

The more we know, the better our chances of enhancing protection in this dangerously threatened region. Thank you so much for your support.

Thanks to you, we built another underwater boulder barrier: [link removed]

Earlier this month, Greenpeace activists placed boulders in a so-called “protected” area of the ocean called the South West Deeps (East) located nearly 200km off the coast of Cornwall. In the last 18 months alone, the area has been industrially fished for almost 20,000 hours, causing untold devastation to marine life: [link removed]

Activists and crew on board our ship, the Arctic Sunrise, had been preparing to extend the protective boulder barrier but the Government stopped us in our tracks: [link removed] legal action against Greenpeace.

Building boulder barriers is a popular action that works and here are five reasons why Greenpeace uses this tactic to protect our oceans: [link removed]

We may have been stopped from extending our boulder barrier, but in the last week over 30,000 people have kept our campaign going. Thousands of people have emailed their MPs and some of those MPs have already promised to write to the new Environment Secretary demanding answers on destructive fishing. Result!

Can you email your MP now and ask them to write to the new Environment Minister? The more of us who email our MP, the more pressure the new Minister will feel to stop the industrial fishing frenzy.

How to get help if you’re worried about paying your energy bills: [link removed]

[link removed]

John, it's already been an extremely tough few years for many of us and now millions of people across the UK are being faced with a huge rise in living costs. Food and tax costs are going up, but the biggest increase is in energy bills: [link removed]

Rising energy bills are another stark reminder that we need to move away from fossil fuels. In August, the energy cap was raised to over ÂŁ3,500 a year, and though the government price freeze provided some relief, millions of households and businesses are still struggling to stay afloat.

If you or somebody you know are worried about being able to keep your home warm or your electricity on, talk to Citizens Advice: [link removed] for support. They can help you access support you are entitled to, manage any overdue bills you need to pay, and find local support services.

Climate anxiety: 21 resources to energise you into action: [link removed]

Hope is a natural resource too. And like many natural resources, hope can feel in short supply these days. It’s not surprising that we’re feeling distressed. For people facing the impacts already, the climate crisis is here and now. Fear, sadness and anger are natural emotional responses. But climate anxiety may overwhelm us and stop us from doing something that can help: taking action together: [link removed]

Although the challenges we face are huge, so are the reasons to be hopeful! In this article, we discuss 21 resources to revive your hope: [link removed], from climate cafes, resilience projects to books and podcasts.

Supporter spotlight: [link removed] t-shirt leads to love: [link removed]

Mark, who's been a Greenpeace supporter for 40 years (pictured above), originally brought a Greenpeace t-shirt back in 1990 and happened to be wearing it when he got into a taxi in Miami. It sparked a conversation and that conversation turned into a relationship and then a marriage!

Mark’s family have also been inspired by his environmentalism, including his daughter who went on to become a climatologist and is currently studying for a PhD in Conservation. We happened to re-release the same t-shirt design: [link removed], Mark wore when he met his wife in time for this year’s festival season. His wife kindly treated Mark to a new one in celebration of his birthday, which led to his whole family wanting one.

A space to share, build and collaborate: [link removed]

Greenpeace is opening up its workshop to grassroots groups campaigning: [link removed] a range of connected issues like racial and social justice as well as defending the environment.

Access to space where you can design, plan and build your campaigns is tough to find, especially in London. Even more so when you need to do something messy that takes up a lot of space, like painting a banner or making a mock oil pipeline for a protest.

We have also launched The Movement Support Fund: [link removed] Community groups fighting for social, racial and environmental justice can now apply for funding to push their campaigns, projects, events and research forward.

🎬What we’re watching this month:

- What's racism got to do with environmental destruction?: [link removed] Produced with The Runnymede Trust, our new report shows how the crises our planet faces today are a legacy of systemic racism. Watch this video to find out how racism, environmental destruction and big corporations are all linked.

- Garment waste from Nike and other leading brands burned to fuel toxic kilns in Cambodia: [link removed] An Unearthed investigation has revealed how off-cuts from Cambodian factories supplying major brands are being used to fuel brick-kilns - exposing workers to toxic fumes.

Petitions

John, signing petitions is a great way to take action and make a difference. Please add your name and support to our latest petitions because nothing changes without you.

Stop sewage pollution: [link removed]

We should all have access to safe, clean water. Raw sewage is destroying our beaches, rivers and waterways, but it doesn't have to be like this.

Tackle soaring energy bills: [link removed]

This October, millions of households across the UK could be pushed into fuel poverty by soaring energy bills. This comes after oil and gas giants, like Shell and BP, announced record-breaking profits.

UK government: No more oil and gas: [link removed]

The government has approved a major new fossil fuel project called Jackdaw - which, if it goes ahead, will produce climate pollution equivalent to Ghana’s annual emissions. In July, the UK government declared a national emergency because of a record-breaking heat wave - the kind we know are being driven by the climate crisis.
