Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Nigeria and other countries have all faced devastating flooding in recent weeks. Unfortunately, floods will only worsen as climate change intensifies: WRI data finds that the number of people affected by floods will double worldwide by 2030, due to rising temperatures and socioeconomic factors. Increasing finance for flood protection measures like dikes, levees and mangrove restoration can save lives and produce significant returns on investment. Learn more

Floods threaten both human lives and economies. The amount of urban property damaged by riverine floods will increase threefold from 2010-2030 — from $157 billion to $535 billion annually — while urban property damaged by coastal storm surges will increase tenfold to $117 billion a year. WRI announced that Moazzam Malik will be joining its leadership team as the Managing Director for Global Delivery. Malik will champion WRI’s mission in Asia and the Middle East, as well as oversee the institutional infrastructure and systems required to deliver WRI’s ambitious global strategy and country strategies. Malik previously served as the Director General for Africa for the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO), and prior to that, as British Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN. New Data: US Clean Energy Investments Can Create Millions of Jobs

New WRI research finds that significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions can create millions of jobs in the U.S by 2035. The study models federal policies included in the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, such as clean energy tax credits and infrastructure investments, as well as additional policies that can help the U.S. achieve net-zero emissions.
