Trinity River waterwheels design complete!

Waterwheels design is 90% complete!

Design plans for the Trinity River Waterwheels Initiative [ [link removed] ] are now complete! This represents a big step in the advancement of this project, allowing it to move toward the implementation stage. During the next phase of the project, necessary federal permits will be pursued from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, a Department of Defense federal agency that has authority over any development on the Trinity River, as well as a floodplain development permit from the city’s Development Services Department.

In partnership with the Tarrant Regional Water District [ [link removed] ] and Streams & Valleys, Inc [ [link removed] ]., the City of Fort Worth is still seeking to reach its fundraising goal of $1.2 million dollars to build and install two waterwheels. There are seven different levels of sponsorship available, and though the city is still supportive of a Title Sponsor Donor [ [link removed] ], any donation is welcome. The implementation of the waterwheels is a significant part of the city’s and its partners' continuous effort to educate residents on the litter problem and to improve water quality.

"Visit our website [ [link removed] ] to check out sponsorship levels. Donations for the waterwheels can be made online or by check to Keep Fort Worth Beautiful. [ [link removed] ] or through our 501(c)(3) partner Streams & Valleys. [ [link removed] ] T"ake part in Fort Worth’s vision and become a waterwheel sponsor today!"" [ [link removed] ]

October is WaterSense month!

WaterSense Shower Better coming up in October

WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is both a label for water-efficient products and a resource for saving water. The WaterSense label makes it simple to find water-efficient products, new homes, and programs that meet EPA’s criteria for efficiency and performance. WaterSense-labeled products and services are certified to use at least 20 percent less water, save energy, and perform as well as or better than regular models.

The City of Fort Worth has been a WaterSense partner for decades and regularly supports WaterSense campaigns, including October’s Shower Better. The EPA estimates that the average family could save up to 2,700 gallons of water each year by switching your showerheads to WaterSense fixtures. Start saving both water and energy! Look for WaterSense-labeled products and ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances that use water. For more information, visit www.epa.gov/watersense [ [link removed] ] and www.energystar.gov [ [link removed] ].

Lights out, Texas!

Lower lights to save birds!

Join city staff and partners in protecting birds this Fall, in support of the Lights Out, Fort Worth initiative, headed by the National Audubon Society! [ [link removed] ]

Downtown Fort Worth’s high-rise buildings and the City of Fort Worth’s future City Hall have joined the mission to help save the lives of birds as they begin both their Spring and Fall migrations through Texas each year. You do not have to live downtown to take part – everyone in the city can reduce light pollution at night for a few hours to support this effort. Participate by turning off lights between now and November 30 between 11 p.m. - 6 a.m. This can dramatically reduce hazards and disorientation by light, allowing birds to safely proceed with their migratory journeys.
