It seems almost every news organization you can think of is represented here at Poynter this week. The building is abuzz with connections formed, a-ha moments shared and energy restored from the five unique programs we are hosting:
🚀 Sunday, we welcomed the 2022 Media Transformation Challenge Fellows ([link removed]) and the September cohort of Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media ([link removed]) . These two groups of leaders — one with the most senior executives calling the shots in the journalism industry and the other made up of innovative change agents within their first five years of management — are here all week for intensive, transformational learning.
đź’ˇ Monday, we began our online Executive Leadership Summit ([link removed]) , a three-day, hyper-focused check-in for senior leaders to focus on retention and other high-priority topics for 2023. Our guest instructors today are New York Times Managing Editor Marc Lacey and The Washington Post's Managing Editor of Diversity and Inclusion Krissah Thompson.
🇺🇸 Today, hundreds of journalists are gathering virtually to learn about covering political extremism ([link removed]) as we barrel toward the United States' midterm elections amidst increased threats to democracy. Participants will learn about debunking dangerous disinformation from PolitiFact and hear from journalists on the growing democracy beat, as well as from election officials themselves about their experiences at the polls.
đź“ş Thursday and through the weekend, our second Producer Project ([link removed]) class of 2022 will convene at Poynter to explore big topics like ethics and leadership. These TV producers already worked together online and will meet in person for the first time at Poynter.
There’s Poynter magic in the air, folks. And there’s still time this year for you to join in. See upcoming opportunities from Poynter below.

Your Press Pass Through History: On the Scene with The Associated Press
In-person event, Tuesday, Oct. 11, Tampa, Florida

The Beatles performing on "The Ed Sullivan Show." The Challenger exploding in the sky. Tom Brady celebrating his seventh Super Bowl victory.

We’ve shared these moments because the journalists of The Associated Press captured history in the flash of a camera. Now’s your chance to go behind the scenes of these iconic images — and the historic events underway today — with an all-access pass to the work of the AP.

You’re invited to join the Poynter Institute on Oct. 11 for an immersive, multimedia-rich evening with the award-winning journalist and newsroom executive helping write history’s first draft: Julie Pace.
Cost: $35.50 – $150.

Beyond Politics: Facts and the Supreme Court of the United States with Joan Biskupic
In-person event, Sept. 28, Washington, D.C.
Despite being one of the most powerful and influential institutions in America, the Supreme Court finds its rulings mired in misinformation, from abortion to gun control and from climate protection to religious freedoms.
Few journalists have a handle on the facts better than author and CNN legal analyst Joan Biskupic.
Join Poynter and PolitiFact for an elegant, private event with Biskupic at the gorgeous riverside Sequoia D.C. restaurant and event venue. We’ll sort fact from fiction about the nine justices and their constitutional oaths to make rulings with integrity, uphold the law of the land and administer the will of the people.
Cost: $75.
