🚀 Sunday, we welcomed the 2022 Media Transformation Challenge Fellows and the September cohort of Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media. These two groups of leaders — one with the most senior executives calling the shots in the journalism industry and the other made up of innovative change agents within their first five years of management — are here all week for intensive, transformational learning. 

💡 Monday, we began our online Executive Leadership Summit, a three-day, hyper-focused check-in for senior leaders to focus on retention and other high-priority topics for 2023. Our guest instructors today are New York Times Managing Editor Marc Lacey and The Washington Post's Managing Editor of Diversity and Inclusion Krissah Thompson.

🇺🇸 Today, hundreds of journalists are gathering virtually to learn about covering political extremism as we barrel toward the United States' midterm elections amidst increased threats to democracy. Participants will learn about debunking dangerous disinformation from PolitiFact and hear from journalists on the growing democracy beat, as well as from election officials themselves about their experiences at the polls. 

📺 Thursday and through the weekend, our second Producer Project class of 2022 will convene at Poynter to explore big topics like ethics and leadership. These TV producers already worked together online and will meet in person for the first time at Poynter.

🥳 Congrats to AP’s Ron Nixon, a graduate of Poynter’s Power Up program for leadership during tough times. He got promoted to vice president for investigative, enterprise, grants and partnerships. 

🤩 We love to see 2021 Leadership Academy for Women in Media alum and Prism editor-in-chief Ashton Lattimore leading a massive cultural shift: a 4-day work week. Learn what happened after Prism’s summer pilot program and why she made the shift permanent. 

👏 Yay for trailblazing journalist S. Mitra Kalita for receiving ONA’s 2022 Impact Award! Kalita is one of only a few guest faculty to teach at all three Poynter Leadership Academies. She also served on Poynter's National Advisory Board and graduated from the Media Transformation Challenge Program at Poynter.
