Welcome to our weekly newsletter about mental health services and support available in Barnet and beyond. Also bringing you updates on Inclusion Barnet mental health news. Produced by Ed Peston, Communications Assistant.

Events and News from the Web A Manifesto for 2.8 Million Minds: art, young people and mental health (From Association for Art History), Thursday 22 September, 3.00 - 4.00pm

Developed over six months, 2.8 Million Minds is a youth-led and artist-centred manifesto that outlines an original set of ideas about how art spaces can support and empower young Londoners struggling with their mental health.

For this event, artists Becky Warnock and Tyreis Holder will discuss their contributions to the manifesto with some of the young artists they worked with, reflecting on the theory and practice behind the project with Chisenhale Gallery's Seth Pimlott.

Open Minds Exhibition and Performance (From BEH NHS Trust), Opens Friday 23 September, 6.00 - 10.00pm, Outsider Gallery, Clarendon Recovery College, Clarendon Road, London N8 0DJ

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust proudly present a creative arts exhibition that has been created by participants engaging in music therapy, expressive art and drama therapy programmes, in response to the pressures of Covid, isolation and the impact of complex mental health. Funded by NHS Charities Together and brought to you by Outsider Music and Outsider Gallery London, and Maria Stydenko.

Weekly online social group from Mind in Enfield and Barnet, Fridays from 6.00 - 7.00pm

This group takes place by Zoom, and the session is broken up into a few casual activities such as:

Catch up about each other’s week

Play a quiz where everybody provides 3 questions

Share and discuss TV, movies and news that has inspired us this week

From Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Enfield and Islington Community Mental Health Services:-

Please join them on 30 September at Hornsey Vale Community Centre, Mayfield Road, London N8 9LP in Haringey, 1-4pm, to learn about the way they are transforming community mental health services across Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.

Their Community Mental Health Transformation Programme is working across five boroughs, Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington. Staff from each will be at the event to talk about the work that they are doing and listen to your feedback and your thoughts on what they need to do to make services better for you; they’ll also have some small discussion groups, they’ll be asking for your feedback, and they’ll be serving refreshments.

Addictive Eaters Anonymous online meetings, Thursdays 6.30 - 7.30am and Fridays 7.00 - 8.00pm

Addictive Eaters Anonymous (AEA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addictive eating.

AEA has members who have suffered from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. Many have been underweight, overweight or obese; others were people of average weight yet suffered with an obsession with food. Members may have used exercise and other substances to try and control their weight. Before coming to AEA, members found that they were powerless over food, and unable to stop the food obsession.

Building Friendship is a free weekly drop in every Friday for those with mental health difficulties.

We are a Peer-Led Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO).

Nearly all of our directors and staff have lived experience of disability, including mental health issues and/or long-term health conditions.

We believe that learning to use our lived experience for social change is a skill. We have become experts in harnessing the lived experience of our staff, members, volunteers and the people who use our services to design and deliver higher quality, more person-centred services.
