Supporting Our Veterans Friend, Before heading to Washington this week, I joined the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Denis McDonough, at the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic in Riverside, Iowa. At the clinic, disabled veterans are given the opportunity to learn new skills in a supportive, community-oriented environment. It was truly inspiring to see this program in action and see firsthand the positive impact it has on veterans in Iowa and across the country. I heard directly from veterans who believed their disabilities would prevent them from ever playing sports again, but this clinic gave them the opportunity to overcome those expectations alongside their fellow veterans. I sincerely appreciate Secretary McDonough coming to Iowa and his willingness to work across the aisle on behalf of our nation's veterans. Caring for America's veterans should always transcend politics, and it always will for me. Read on below for more information about my work for Iowans this week! Best, PHOTO GALLERY: National Disabled Golf Clinic NEW: Providing for Life Act & Expanding the Child Tax Credit This week, I joined Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) in introducing the Providing for Life Act, a comprehensive, pro-family plan that expands the Child Tax Credit, empower moms, and strengthens families. This legislation combines existing bills with new, pro-family proposals, including an expansion of the Child Tax Credit, to provide support for expecting moms and young children. I am committed to supporting moms both during pregnancy and once their babies are born – we should be engaged in uplifting and strengthening families. The policies in the Providing for Life Act, particularly the expanded Child Tax Credit, will make a meaningful difference for women and families in Iowa and across the country. Issues that are top of mind for farmers right now include input costs, government overregulation, and supply chain breakdowns. I’ll continue working in a bipartisan way for Iowa agriculture in Congress. National Automobile Dealers Association I enjoyed speaking at the National Automobile Dealers Association conference this week and discussing ways we can address challenges facing the automobile industry right now, including rebuilding our workforce, fixing our supply chain, and preventing catalytic converter theft. Great seeing Iowans from Dubuque, Hiawatha, and Boone who were here for the conference! Iowa Pork Producers Iowa is the number one pork producing state in the US. Enjoyed catching up with the Iowa Pork Producers and hearing more about the challenges facing Iowa’s pork industry right now. I’ll continue working to lower input costs, protect animal health, and push back against onerous government regulations. Iowa Credit Union League I had a productive conversation with members of the Iowa Credit Union League this week! We talked about the importance of cybersecurity and ensuring those in rural communities can access credit. Growth Energy It was great meeting with Growth Energy this week and I was honored to receive their Fueling Growth Award. We’ll continue working together to expand the use of biofuels nationwide and promote Iowa’s ethanol industry. Taiwan Agricultural Goodwill Mission It was an honor to join the 2022 Taiwan Agricultural Goodwill Mission as Taiwan committed to buy an estimated $3.2 billion of corn, soy beans, and wheat from the U.S. in 2023 and 2024. This is great news for Iowa agriculture, and I will continue working to promote beneficial trade partnerships. Community Highlights The City of Cedar Rapids held a ceremony last week for the opening of Hughes Park -- my team was there to help celebrate this great new addition to the community! My team attended the MEDCO Development & Industry Tour in Marion this week. They received an update on the construction of the new Marion Football complex, Lebeda Mattress Factory, Victory Sports Center, and the Broad & Main 7th project. Amazing to see Marion growing!
