Top Republican officials have announced their plan to pass a federal ban on abortion if they regain control of the House and Senate this November.
That’s not going to happen on our watch.
I know all too well what Republicans are capable of when they get into power. Right now, residents of my district in Texas are forced to travel over 500 miles to Wichita, Kansas or Albuquerque, New Mexico to get the abortion care they need.
If the Republican Party has their way, there will be no more “safe states.” We need bold federal action to safeguard and restore every single person’s right to abortion care – no matter their state.

I’m no stranger to these fights. As a council member for the city of Austin, I worked with Planned Parenthood to stop the Texas state legislature from closing a city-supported clinic in East Austin and ensure that marginalized communities could get the reproductive care they needed.
But this is bigger than Texas.
With these Republican officials aggressively pursuing a federal abortion ban, it is absolutely critical that we keep the GOP out of power by electing bold progressives who will fight for our future.
And when I get to Congress, I will fight not only for your constitutional right to an abortion, but for EVERYONE’S right to health care, affordable housing, and a sustainable future.
