Working for Michigan Banner
Dear Colleague,?
As state employees, I know how much work you do to make Michigan a better place. It is important that, in addition to caring for Michiganders, you prioritize your own needs as well. That means taking care not only of your financial future, but also your own health and well-being.?
Last week, we recognized Michigan Construction Suicide Prevention Week and Suicide Prevention Week. This is an excellent opportunity to remind ourselves about resources we have available to take care of ourselves and others. If you or someone you know need help, the Employee Service Program (ESP) [ [link removed] ] is available from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. You can call 800-521-1377 for confidential support.?
I am proud to be governor of a state that puts its people first. Make sure you give yourself the same care you always give others.?
Sincerely,?
Governor Whitmer

Construction Suicide Prevention Week
Last week, we recognized Construction Suicide Prevention Week here in Michigan. Construction workers in Michigan are vital to our infrastructure, our economy, and our communities. These workers face unique challenges that lead to a higher-than-average number of suicides in the industry ? the highest suicide rate among all occupations in Michigan, at a rate of 75.4 per 100,000 people according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. ?
That?s why it is so important to raise awareness about suicide risk factors and the resources that exist. By having an open dialogue on mental health and suicide in the construction industry, we can help save lives. Having conversations about mental health with coworkers can be difficult, but everyone can help prevent suicide by knowing the warning signs, reaching out to a colleague if they?re concerned about them, and staying with them and getting help if they are in crisis. This Construction Suicide Prevention Week, we encourage all employees in Michigan?s construction industry to promote suicide prevention dialogue, training, and resources.?
