As we inch slowly toward winter, it's a good idea to protect yourself from seasonal influenza. The 2022 State of Michigan Employee Flu Vaccine Clinic Program runs now through Thursday, November 10.?
For more information on Flu Vaccine Clinic locations and dates, visit the Michigan Civil Service?s Seasonal Flu Busters Program site. You can search lists for the Flu Vaccine Program either sorted alphabetically or sorted by date.
If you're unable to attend a worksite clinic, you can receive a flu vaccine from your health care provider, a participating pharmacy, or local health department. Alternatives to worksite clinics can be found at MDHHS Flu Vaccine Finder or Vaccines.gov - Search for flu vaccine locations.
Last week, we recognized Construction Suicide Prevention Week here in Michigan. Construction workers in Michigan are vital to our infrastructure, our economy, and our communities. These workers face unique challenges that lead to a higher-than-average number of suicides in the industry ? the highest suicide rate among all occupations in Michigan, at a rate of 75.4 per 100,000 people according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. ?
That?s why it is so important to raise awareness about suicide risk factors and the resources that exist. By having an open dialogue on mental health and suicide in the construction industry, we can help save lives. Having conversations about mental health with coworkers can be difficult, but everyone can help prevent suicide by knowing the warning signs, reaching out to a colleague if they?re concerned about them, and staying with them and getting help if they are in crisis. This Construction Suicide Prevention Week, we encourage all employees in Michigan?s construction industry to promote suicide prevention dialogue, training, and resources.?
