Join us ([link removed]) tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST, as InSight Crime and the Center for Latin American & Latino Studies at American University (CLALS) hold a discussion with six experts on the latest threats posed by illegal fishing in the region. The discussion will also stream live on the CLALS Facebook page ([link removed]) .
The first panel focuses on the waters of Central America and the Caribbean. It begins at 1:30 p.m. EST and features Peter A. The second panel explores South America’s seas. In addition to the conference, we have recently published a comprehensive paper on the causes, consequences, and responses to IUU fishing crimes across nine countries: Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, Suriname, Guyana, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina.

The paper builds on some of the reporting seen in our recent “Plundered Oceans” investigation. The on-the-ground, country-specific reports shine light into the murky waters of IUU fishing.
