Known as the premier historic preservation and heritage tourism event in the Lone Star State, the Texas Historical Commission?s Real Places conference brings together people from all the varied fields involved in Texas history and preservation. This includes historic preservation officers, design review board members, architects, engineers, heritage tourism professionals, County Historical Commissions, downtown revitalization professionals, historians, archeologists, curators, interpreters, educators, nonprofit staff and volunteers, THC staff, Texas Heritage Trail Regions, and many more.
We hope you?ll join us next year for our seventh annual conference!
Hosted by the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission, Real Places 2023 will take place online and in person, in Austin, February 1?3. *ACT NOW* to save up to $125?early-bird savings only last through September 30. Real Places 2023 will feature more than 40 sessions and workshops, five keynote sessions, 90 expert speakers from across Texas and the U.S., and several fun networking events.
Virtual attendees will be able to attend all sessions, and both virtual and in-person attendees will have access to recordings of all the sessions for up to 60 days?you won?t have to worry about choosing between great concurrent sessions!

Fanthorp Focus Weekend: Fanthorp Family Cemetery
The Fanthorp Family Cemetery is located in Anderson across the street from our Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site [ [link removed] ]. For over 180 years, it has served as the final resting place for Fanthorp family members and some of the most notable figures in Texas History. On September 10?11, historic site staff will demonstrate proper cemetery care and explore the lives of those interred there.

Monument Hill Remembrance Day
Join our?Kreische Brewery [ [link removed] ] and Monument Hill State Historic Sites [ [link removed] ]?in La Grange as they honor the soldiers entombed on Monument Hill on Saturday, September 17, at 10 a.m. The memorial ceremony will include guest speakers, a wreath-laying, and a gun salute. After the ceremony, staff and volunteers welcome visitors to explore the grounds of Kreische Brewery.
