john xxxxxx,

One of my proudest accomplishments is co-founding the Yellowstone County Area Human Trafficking Task Force, the largest human trafficking task force in the state of Montana. This issue is deeply important to me, which is why I find it to be outrageous that my opponent, Representative Matt Rosendale, was one of seven state senators to vote against strengthening Montana’s human trafficking laws back in 2015.

The bill had bipartisan support, including from Republican Attorney General Tim Fox. Among other provisions, the bill allows victims of human trafficking who are charged with prostitution to protect themselves from charges if they assert that they are a victim of human trafficking. As a result, more victims have been able to come forward without fear of prosecution.

After the bill passed, we have seen human sex traffickers ([link removed]) get longer and harsher sentences, keeping our communities safer.

In the past, I worked with the Montana Department of Justice, the FBI, and the United States Attorney’s Office to end human trafficking in our state. I created and hosted conferences and training events to educate the public, schools, and government agencies on issues of human trafficking, community organization, and leadership.

Additionally, I worked with Montana’s U.S. Congressional members to address human trafficking and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP).

The Department of Justice has reported that ([link removed]) in Montana indigenous girls and women make up 3.3 percent of the population, but 30 to 40 percent of the people missing in Montana. The disproportionate amount of indigenous women missing in our state is directly related to sex trafficking and domestic violence.
Throughout his career, Rosendale has always served as a “no” vote for any sort of meaningful legislation that would improve the lives of residents in Montana. This includes reducing the rate of human trafficking and violence towards women in our state. Rosendale is less interested in protecting his female constituents and more interested in obstructing a positive agenda.

On Women’s Equality Day, we should be reminded of the trailblazing women that shaped our state and the lengths we still need to go. Rosendale stands in the way when it comes to improving the lives of the women and girls in Montana. Let's send him a message on November 8th that nothing can stop our fight for progress!

Can I count on your support? ([link removed])

Sincerely,
