Today is significant for two reasons: Today is Women’s Equality Day - a day to commemorate the adoption of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Today is also the day that Texas’s trigger ban law takes effect, which means it is now a felony to provide an abortion in virtually every circumstance across the state of Texas.

Despite the urgent need for more female leaders in the rooms where these horrifying decisions are being made: Democratic women are losing their primaries.

While a record number of women are running for office, Tuesday night’s primary election results showed that, when given the choice between a viable female candidate and a viable male candidate, voters are still having a hard time believing in the female candidate. It doesn’t help that institutional endorsers and Democratic Party support tend to rally around male candidates…

Women candidates get skipped over for important endorsements on a regular basis. Often it's because these endorsements are based on fundraising numbers, incumbency, pedigree, favors, or the propensity to favor the status quo. We know women find themselves at a disadvantage in all of those categories compared to their male counterparts.
