When your baby is born, there are plenty of things to think about, and one of the first is how to feed your newborn, be it breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or both. August is National Breastfeeding Month, so to mark it we asked Dr. Sahira Long, a board-certified pediatrician and lactation consultant at Children’s National, for her advice on breastfeeding ([link removed]) .

While breast milk helps ensure babies’ growth and development, it comes up short in one respect – it’s a very poor source of vitamin D. Fortunately, vitamin D deficiency is entirely preventable with the right information, attention and care.
