Dear John,
Implementing bold changes across our education system takes more than impassioned advocates and families, it also requires exemplary elected leadership who are committed to championing reforms that will give every child access to an education that will put them on track for college or career.

That’s why in 2018 we made a commitment to the 50CAN Action Fund Network ([link removed]) so we could support the campaigns of the elected leaders we believe in.

This year, thus far, has been our biggest yet.

In 2022:
* Endorsed candidates won four of six school board races in Delaware ([link removed]) ;
* Endorsed candidates won 13 of 14 primary races in Georgia ([link removed]) , and helped champion Alisha Thomas Searcy win a decisive victory for the Democratic nomination for State School Superintendent; and
* In Tennessee ([link removed]) , two Republican House members who voted against educational choice for families lost their primaries to our endorsed candidates.
* Also in Tennessee, the statewide paper Tennessean ([link removed]) reported on these victories, including a quote from one of the defeated incumbents commenting on the increasing influence of our group and its allies.
* In Hawaii: ([link removed]) In addition to hosting the first televised debate of the gubernatorial primary elections, HawaiiKidsCAN Action Fund was able to solicit candidate survey responses from 57 candidates, offering valuable insight into the future of education policy in Hawaii. HawaiiKidsCAN Action Fund team members also helped with grassroots efforts to successfully see gubernatorial candidate Josh Green and State Senator Donovan Dela Cruz through their primary elections.

The candidates we’ve helped elect over the past eight months are true champions for the interests of students, and include:

Alisha Thomas Searcy
A community activist, former school leader and former state legislator, Alisha has a long track record of ensuring families have access to high-quality educational options. In May, she won an open primary for the Democratic nomination for State School Superintendent with 57% of the vote, with our Georgia committee running radio ads on her behalf.

Michael Hale
Michael Hale is a businessman and pastor who worked extremely hard to unseat a Republican opponent in a Tennessee House district primary. The incumbent voted repeatedly against educational options for families and student-based funding. Michael is a strong supporter of educational choice–we were happy to stand with him. Our Tennessee committee sent direct mail on Michael’s behalf to help secure the victory.

It’s been a promising start to a critical election season. This fall, the 50CAN Action Fund Network ([link removed]) will be involved in over 40 elections, providing financial and tactical support and playing a key role in keeping voters informed about the choice they’ll have to make at the polls.

In the coming weeks, we will finish up primaries in Delaware ([link removed]) and begin our focus on the November general election for all our states and cities. The political plan for each state is built around building a bipartisan working majority that will prioritize the five pillars of the 50CAN network’s Believe in Better policy framework ([link removed]) .

To accomplish this, our teams will carry out a wide variety of political engagement including forums, grassroots, candidate surveys and direct support of candidates.

We plan to have more success stories to share in the coming months as a result of the elections, including increased working majorities for educational choice in Delaware ([link removed]) , Georgia ([link removed]) and Tennessee ([link removed]) ; a commitment to prioritizing education by the next Governor of Hawaii ([link removed]) ; and a board on New Mexico's ([link removed]) Public Education Commission that will fairly and wisely allow the creation of new high-quality school options for the children of their state.

Thank you for your support as we take up the fight for students.

If you like what we do at 50CAN Action Fund, your support would go a long way to make these plans a reality. We have a fall goal of 50 new donors by October 1. Please consider donating today ([link removed]) . Any donations will be used to put our staff directly into the field to work with elected officials and candidates on behalf of students in the states of our network.
