Following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck southern Haiti in August of last year, the world looked on as Haitians began working around the clock to respond to the crisis.

Support and solidarity poured in from around the globe during the weeks following the earthquake, which came on the heels of a presidential assassination and civil unrest.

But the heroes on the ground were left on their own for the rest of the year when the work to respond to the aftermath of the earthquake was not finished, long after the world had stopped looking. In the midst of tragedy and disaster, however, Zanmi Lasante (ZL), PIH’s sister organization in Haiti, never slowed their efforts to provide care to those who need it most, long after August 2021.

It's monthly donations that helped shift the emergency response into long-term health systems building. These partnerships help the team continue to respond to the chronic emergencies of poverty and illness, while also funding COVID-19 treatment and vaccination, training the next generation of clinical leaders, and investing in infrastructure that will make responding to any future emergency a little bit easier.

Monthly donors help ensure PIH can continue to provide lifesaving care in Haiti, even when the news cycle has moved on. They’ve made the impossible possible, but no matter how much we expand access to care, we are still not going fast enough.
