To Progressives the Deaths of Palestinians Don’t Matter, Only Ukrainians Friend, Earlier this month, Israeli forces launched "pre-emptive" raids on Gaza, killing 47 Palestinians, including 16 children. Every one of these deaths is an insurmountable tragedy, and the suffering will only continue if the U.S. doesn't condemn it. Al Jazeera reports that the latest bombings have caused Gaza's healthcare system to fall apart entirely. Making matters worse, Gaza’s only powerplant was shut down after Israel stopped the planned fuel transport into Gaza. "The situation is so sad and unimaginable," 65-year-old Ashkinan said at the Gaza hospital to Al Jazeera. "No human being can bear what we bear – from the war against us, the defenseless civilians, or from the constant power cuts or the running out of fuel? What is our fault, and what is the fault of our children, for all this to happen to them?" "Mayar Ashkinan, 10, pictured with her grandmother at the hospital [Hosam Salem/Al Jazeera]" As of writing this email, the response from the United States has been nothing. Foreign Policy categorized the U.S. response as "muted." U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby doubled down on our support for Israel’s bloody operation reiterating America’s support for Israel's right to "defense." But it's not just the Biden administration that has been silent about the recent brutal attack on Palestinians. House Progressives who have been more than willing to call out alleged Russian crimes against civilians in Ukraine have, in typical fashion, stayed silent on the plight of Gaza. Since the strikes, the House Progressive Caucus hasn't said or done anything. This silence is deafening, especially as people in Gaza struggle to piece together their lives after these recent attacks. We need to hold the House Progressive Caucus accountable.
