GLAAD and more than 50 other pro-LGBTQ organizations organized an open letter <[link removed]> detailing the effects of false Facebook ads regarding PrEP, a drug that protects against HIV. Law firms have created targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram which state the medication is not safe, therefore putting high risk populations at greater risk.
In an article in The Washington Post <[link removed]>, health officials detail the harm that the ads have caused and the responses from patients who have become wrongfully fearful of taking PrEP. GLAAD and the co-signers of the letter have called on Facebook to remove the ads on its platforms and to update its advertising policies to prevent misinformation.
“Facebook’s refusal to take action on ads that target at-risk community members with false medical information points to a much larger problem for Facebook users and an urgent need for LGBTQ safety to be prioritized across their products,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, the President and CEO of GLAAD.

The 77th Annual Golden Globes to honor several LGBTQ-inclusive nominees in 2020
The nominations for The 77th annual Golden Globe Awards <[link removed]> were announced Monday morning and once again several LGBTQ-inclusive actors and characters were recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Billy Porter, Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstien were among the individuals nominated, and international features Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Pain and Glory picked up a nomination in Best Foreign Language Film. Sundance unveils a diverse LGBTQ-inclusive lineup for the 2020 film festival
Sundance released its lineup for the 2020 film festival, and it is full of LGBTQ narratives <[link removed]>. The 17 films about the LGBTQ commuity vary in content, from documentaries to narrative fiction. Among the most anticipated are Disclosure: Trans Lives On Screen, Welcome to Chechnya and Mucho Mucho Amor, which is about the late astrologist Walter Mercado. The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 23 through February 2.
