Chief Scientist John Abowd Receives Champion of Freedom Award

John Abowd, the U.S. Census Bureau’s chief scientist and associate director for research and methodology, is one of five recipients of the 2022 Champion of Freedom Awards [ [link removed] ]. The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) award recognizes individuals and organizations for their commitment to safeguarding the right to privacy, open government and democratic values with courage and integrity.

Business Formation Statistics Monthly Data Release

The U.S. Census Bureau, on August 11, released new Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2022. The BFS provide timely and high frequency information on new business applications and formations in the United States. The BFS are a standard data product of the Census Bureau, developed in research collaboration with economists affiliated with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

Census Bureau Announces Release Date for 2020 Census Congressional District Summary Files

The U.S. Census Bureau recently announced it plans to release the 2020 Census Congressional District Summary Files in August 2023. These summary files are retabulations of selected summary levels from the Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (scheduled for release in May 2023) for the 118th Congress and the new state legislative districts. When states report changes to congressional districts, the Census Bureau retabulates data using the new boundaries.

Census Bureau to Release 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey Results   for Puerto Rico and U.S. Housing Units [ [link removed] ]

The U.S. Census Bureau will release the final set of results from the 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey (PES) on August 16. These results will provide insight into the quality of the 2020 Census counts for the Puerto Rico population and housing units. It also includes coverage estimates for housing units across the nation, regions, states, and the District of Columbia, and by selected characteristics for the nation.  

The release includes two parts:  


* Puerto Rico population and housing unit coverage
* Housing unit coverage
