John, thank you to everyone who donated to support children impacted by the recent devastating flooding in Kentucky. We put together this timeline so you can learn more about our long-standing work in Kentucky and the difference this community’s support is making for children affected by this emergency.

In the wake of the devastating flooding, kids are left unsure as to what the future may hold, but thanks to dedicated supporters like you, we can help them recover from this disaster and ensure that their futures are bright. We’ve put together a Kentucky Impact Report so you can see how your support makes a vital difference for children in Kentucky.

Leadership Circle Member Exclusive: Kentucky Impact Report.

1932: Save the Children's work in the U.S. began in rural Kentucky communities. During the Great Depression, we supported children threatened by poverty and inequality. Since then we have continuously operated programs in some of the state's most impoverished communities.

2014: Powered by supporters like you, our work in rural Kentucky communities continued to grow. In 2014, more than 10,000 Kentucky children participated in our early education, literacy and health programs. And currently, we partner with 33 schools across 8 counties to provide high-quality early education, child care and nutrition programs.

JULY 2022: Heavy rains led to deadly and damaging flooding throughout eastern Kentucky. Hundreds of families lost everything, and thousands more were left without power or water. Supporters like you helped our teams pre-position supplies and mobilize quickly to distribute water, hygiene kits, diapers, wipes and other essential items to families in urgent need.

AUGUST 2022 AND BEYOND: Our teams continue to monitor the situation and support children and families in urgent need. As soon as it is safe to do so, we will work with local communities to get vital child care and educational programs back up and running and provide the psychosocial support children need after this traumatic disaster. We are committed to continuing our work to ensure all kids in Kentucky get the strong start in life they deserve.

In the face of emergencies like this devastating flood in Kentucky, Save the Children does whatever it takes to protect children's lives and futures. This important work would not be possible without your support, and we simply cannot thank you enough.

Life-threatening natural disasters are only increasing due to climate change. Our ability to respond to children’s needs in these emergencies is powered by this community’s incredible commitment and generosity.

The emergency in Kentucky is ongoing, and thousands of children are in need of food, shelter and hygiene kits. Please donate today to ensure children in Kentucky get the immediate and long-term support they need in the wake of this devastating disaster.
