John, imagine being fired from your job for your sexuality. And then violently thrown out of your home.

When it happened to Gloriah in Uganda, she felt “lost and erased” – but then she met women who changed her life.

Gloriah received free counselling and advice from the feminist group Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG) to build a new life for herself.

Right now, we need to raise £8,000 for grassroots women’s groups like FARUG. Hundreds of you have chipped in but we still need £5,108. John, stand with Gloriah and women risking everything to support each other by chipping in now. ([link removed])

In Uganda, it’s a crime to be in a same-sex relationship. Women are abused on the streets and can end up in prison. Gloriah had nowhere she felt safe - until she found FARUG’s centre.

Gloriah says: “Feminism is my tribe…it gives me the strength and power to challenge anything and anybody that tried to oppress me…it helps you to tap into your power. It gives you an attitude that is fearless.”

Gloriah’s hope is “for a future where we have policies that protect all women” and where “we can walk out of the house and not have to worry that we could get killed, kidnapped or raped”.
