In Uganda, it’s a crime to be in a same-sex relationship. Women are abused on the streets and can end up in prison. Gloriah had nowhere she felt safe - until she found FARUG’s centre.
Gloriah says: “Feminism is my tribe…it gives me the strength and power to challenge anything and anybody that tried to oppress me…it helps you to tap into your power. It gives you an attitude that is fearless.”
Gloriah’s hope is “for a future where we have policies that protect all women”and where “we can walk out of the house and not have to worry that we could get killed, kidnapped or raped”.
