Volunteer for the stream team

Texas Stream Team experiences growth

Thanks to all the volunteers who participated in last month?s Texas Stream Team Training held June 4! Volunteers learned all about water quality while completing three phases of training using a test kit that measures physical and chemical parameters in water.

The Texas Stream Team [ [link removed] ] is a network of trained volunteers and supportive partners working together to understand and protect Texas waterways. Texas Stream Team is administered through a cooperative partnership between Texas State University, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hundreds of volunteers collect water quality data on waterways throughout Texas. The City of Fort Worth partners with the Texas Stream Team Program by supporting local volunteers who perform?sampling in Fort Worth. Volunteers are asked to monitor their site(s) monthly at the same time of day each month during a one-year commitment. Monitoring takes approximately one to two hours per month per site.

Adopt-A-Spot Spotlight

This month, we are spotlighting On Angel Wing Delivery, Inc.! This is a local non-profit organization which helps feed seniors and homebound individuals and families in need by transporting groceries from a local food pantry. Earlier this year, in addition to helping those in need, this organization was looking for another opportunity to give back to the community. They joined the city's program in February, adopting Golf Club Drive near Eagle Mountain Lake, and have already started their litter cleanups! Thank you for your hard work keeping your neighborhood clean!

"Our Adopt-A-Spot program is a great opportunity for groups of all kinds to help make our community a better place! If you would like to learn more, we invite you to visit the program website [ [link removed] ]."

Separate your food scraps from the garbage!
Did you know?

Organic materials (such as food waste) that decompose anaerobically buried in a landfill release methane, a potent greenhouse gas that reduces the quality of the air we breathe. Share with your friends and neighbors the power of aerobic decomposition through composting! It?s not just environmentally-friendly but it is nutrient-rich and brings dead soil to life without chemicals!

"For questions or comments about residential composting, please [email protected]?or call 817-392-2046 to speak with one of our team members. The Keep Fort Worth Beautiful team is ready to assist you!"

Soaring temperatures have Fort Worth residents and those in surrounding communities using record amounts of water this summer. Residents now have data at their fingertips that can help leverage their water use and savings! Through the new MyH2O portal you have the tools to monitor and manage your water use. This includes access to your hourly water use data, being able to?easily identify if water is constantly running, and see how frequently your irrigate your lawn. Residential customers can also pay their bill, and set up to receive text or email notifications when a specific amount of water is used, or for a specific billing amount. Sign up for the MyH2O portal here [ [link removed] ]!

Another way to leverage your water use is to use data to determine your irrigation run times and frequency. Tarrant Regional Water District?s weekly watering advice will send you a notification based on the rainfall and evapotranspiration rate for your zip code based on nearby weather station data. You can then manually adjust your irrigation system to follow the weekly advice. Sign up for weekly watering advice here [ [link removed] ].??
