Dear John,

We did it! On Monday, we braved hours of cold and rain to rally as the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in an NRA lawsuit. We were denouncing the NRA’s attempt to use the courts to roll back gun safety laws across the country. And justices heard us [[link removed]?] loud and clear! The Court is signaling that it will side with gun safety, but we need to let the NRA know this: when gun safety laws are on the line, we will defend them every step of the way .

Please add your name to our pledge to protect against any and every attack on gun safety!

Brady joined Giffords and Everytown in organizing Monday’s #GunLawsSaveLives rally [[link removed]] at the Supreme Court. We arrived at 4:00 a.m. and spent hours in the rain calling for the Supreme Court to protect our right not to be shot.

“I’m in a room full of heroes. And we’re going to get gun safety legislation passed.”

Those are survivor Fred Guttenberg’s moving words [[link removed]] as he addressed the room at the National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence at St. Mark’s Church in Washington, D.C. Held each year by Newtown Foundation and Newtown Action Alliance, the vigil brings together survivors and families from across the country to name and remember their loved ones [[link removed]] and #HonorWithAction. The event uplifted survivor voices in a way not often experienced in Washington. Kristen Song, whose son, Ethan, was killed by family fire, shared how she channels her grief into action [[link removed]] . Rep. Lucy McBath spoke of her son, Jordan, and how she will never stop fighting to end gun violence.

Throughout December, we are encouraging community members to hold local vigils or remembrance events, using the Sandy Hook marker as part of a nationwide effort to call to #EndGunViolence.

Sign up to host your own vigil [[link removed]] or find an event near you [[link removed]].

URGENT: Congress Has Just 13 Days Left to Approve Gun Violence Prevention Funding!

It’s been more than 20 years since Congress funded research into gun violence prevention. In June, the House approved funding to study this epidemic. That was historic progress, but now time is running out to make it final. The Senate has only until December 20 to finalize spending for 2020. We need to urge lawmakers to approve this lifesaving funding! This isn't about politics — we need answers that will save lives. Gun violence is a national emergency, and #WeNeedToKnow the solutions to ending this uniquely American epidemic. Please send a message urging your senators to approve federal funding for research to prevent gun violence!

Keep Your Family Safe and End Family Fire This Holiday Season 🎁

As the holiday season approaches, friends, family, and loved ones gather in homes to celebrate the festivities. And as political debates spark around the dinner table, there’s one thing we can all agree on — safe storage saves lives. We’ve all seen and heard the headlines: “Toddler shoots pregnant mother.” “Playdate ends in tragedy when loaded gun is found.” But it doesn’t have to be this way.

We know that 4.6 million children live in homes with access to an unlocked or unsupervised guns. And as holiday celebrations tend to bring more children into the home, curious hands can come across unsecured firearms. So, this holiday season, be sure to store your guns locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition. This way, any firearms will be inaccessible to any little ones who may be roaming around. Brady Endorses Gun Safety Champions for U.S. House 🇺🇸

Brady-endorsed candidates in Virginia made history last month, flipping both the House and Senate to a gun violence prevention majority! Now it’s time to do the same in 2020. Brady has continued our endorsements for gun violence prevention champions, including two candidates running in Pennsylvania and Texas and 10 active duty veterans and current members of Congress. While we can’t force Senator McConnell to vote on lifesaving legislation in the Senate, we can vote for candidates who will continue to champion gun violence prevention in Congress. We thank the Newtown Foundation and Newtown Action Alliance for hosting an emotional yet uplifting vigil as we near the 7th anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. It is events like these that remind us of how ending gun violence is an uphill battle, but one that is worth fighting for each and every day because of the victims and survivors. We will never stop fighting to #EndGunViolence. Thank you to Newtown Action Alliance for having Brady at such a memorable event.

Also this week, we thank Connecticut lawmakers for announcing a historic initiative to divest from the gun industry. Connecticut Treasurer Shawn Wooden’s plan would reallocate $30 million in state pension funds invested in companies that manufacture ammo for the civilian market. This is bold action to reform the gun industry, and it’s another example that we can take action to prevent gun violence without changing the law. Learn more [[link removed]].

Brady Quotes of the Week 🎤

“There was a lot of interest among the judges to defer ruling on the second amendment as there’s no live case here...there’s no case. It should be dismissed.”

— Vice President of Legal Jon Lowy [[link removed]]

“We know that there hasn’t been a decision in a decade, since Heller. And we know that in that time that the gun violence prevention movement has made huge progress in state after state after state in this country. We don’t want that progress to be in any way compromised or reversed. We think that the Second Amendment, like all of the amendments in the Bill of Rights, has limitations and legislatures across this country are making progress to protect public safety and we want that to continue.
