In the wake of Monday’s Fourth of July Parade shooting in Highland Park, we have been reflecting on what “independence” really means. Despite being the “Land of the Free,” it’s more clear than ever that the people with the most freedom in this country are white men with guns.

Just look at men with troubling records of violence and destructive behavior – they have complete and unfettered access to guns in most states. The GOP and SCOTUS are determined to let them keep that right, even as innocent Americans die every day. This is the same country that just robbed 36 million American women of the freedom to have something as basic as bodily autonomy.

We are deeply saddened that on July 4, once again, American lives were stolen by senseless gun violence. Enough is enough. These wishy-washy politicians have had their chance to protect us, and they have failed. We must fight to elect gun sense candidates in November. Help us elect candidates who will fight back against the gun lobby to enact common-sense gun safety legislation by contributing $25 today. → [link removed]

We are writing because we have gun-sense candidates on the ballot who need our support:

✅ Nikki Fried (Florida, Governor) - Aside from being the only pro-choice candidate in her race, she is also the only candidate in her race who has never taken money from the NRA.
✅ Hava Holzhauer for Congress (FL-23) - This district is home to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. A district touched, and now defined, by gun violence. Hava understands the importance of “getting weapons of war off our streets.” She’s also running against a guy who describes himself as a “DeSantis Democrat”...
✅ Melanie D’Arrigo for Congress (NY-03) - She’s the only candidate in this race to be endorsed by Everytown,
✅Jasmine Beach-Ferrara for Congress (NC-11) - A vocal advocate for common sense gun legislation, running against a GOP extremist;
✅Claudia Zapata for Congress (TX-21) - running against Congressman Chip Roy – who, just last month, literally equated gun control legislation with the Holocaust.

These races are some of our best chances of getting gun safety candidates into office. But we cannot do it alone. We can’t stress enough how much we need your help to defeat NRA-backed politicians and ensure that our families are protected.
