In the wake of Monday’s Fourth of July Parade shooting in Highland Park, we have been reflecting on what “independence” really means. Despite being the “Land of the Free,” it’s more clear than ever that the people with the most freedom in this country are white men with guns.

Just look at men with troubling records of violence and destructive behavior – they have complete and unfettered access to guns in most states. The GOP and SCOTUS are determined to let them keep that right, even as innocent Americans die every day. This is the same country that just robbed 36 million American women of the freedom to have something as basic as bodily autonomy.

We are deeply saddened that on July 4, once again, American lives were stolen by senseless gun violence. Enough is enough. These wishy-washy politicians have had their chance to protect us, and they have failed. We must fight to elect gun sense candidates in November.
