As an undercover CIA officer, I watched firsthand as authoritarians eroded citizens’ rights and destroyed democracy abroad. I saw the chilling effects of extremism and the terror it wrought on people and families simply trying to live their lives.

Today, here at home, politically-motivated violence is far too common, our elections are under attack, women in desperate situations are being criminalized, and families are struggling to put gas in their cars and food on their tables.

While most Americans are grappling with these issues, our voices are being gerrymandered to protect the status quo, and our right to vote is being stolen from us by extremists and powerful special interests in pursuit of their own power.
