HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL In Congress, I've been working to get the East Shore Seawall project back on track after years of delays under my predecessor. From funding to radiation removal, we're on track to have the first contract (the drainage portion) issued this year. The House passing my language securing funding for this project is the latest win. READ MORE American cities are under attack by criminals with no regard for the law and DAs who allow them to wreak havoc on our streets. READ MORE During a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, I called out the Biden Administration for its backward border policies that have created massive fentanyl, humanitarian and national security crises along our southern border. WATCH IN THE DISTRICT I’ve been working diligently with veterans’ organizations and House and Senate lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to stop the proposed closures of VA hospitals in New York City. The Senate’s commitment to block the AIR Commission’s recommendations is a key victory, however, we will continue to be vigilant and vocal and won’t stop working to protect these facilities until the President definitively says any proposal from the AIR commission is dead on arrival. READ MORE The Federal Navigation Channel in Great Kills Harbor hasn't been dredged in over eight years, causing headaches for recreational boaters in our community. I'm proud to have played a role in securing $6.75 million so the Army Corps can dredge the entirety of the channel, remove hazards, and create safer waters for our boaters while at the same time protecting against flooding in surrounding areas. READ MORE IN THE NEWS Malliotakis Announces Winners of 2022 Congressional Art Competition Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis announced Staten Island resident Vienna Du who attends Susan E. Wagner High School has won the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for New York's 11th Congressional District. Du's piece, entitled 'Resilience,' will be displayed in the Capitol for one year alongside the winners from each Congressional District. The runner-up for this year's competition, Bay Ridge resident Leo Cheng who attends The Brooklyn Latin School, will have his piece 'The Hidden Hero,' displayed in Malliotakis' Brooklyn Office for one year. READ MORE Malliotakis Announces Return of Kayaking at Staten Island National Parks Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis and the National Parks Service (NPS) announced the revival of a summer Kayaking Program in Gateway National Recreation Area on Staten Island which had been paused for several years. NPS will restart the program with a few events this year with the goal of having a more regular program next season. READ MORE Malliotakis Reminds Individuals to Check Passports as Agencies Return to Pre-Pandemic Staffing Levels As of the beginning of June, passport agencies nationwide are returning to pre-pandemic staffing levels. While this will surely relieve some of the problems Americans have experienced with lack of responsiveness and delays, we anticipate that there will still be a backlog as agencies resume normal operations. I urge individuals to check their passports well in advance of any international travel to ensure that it is not expired and immediately complete an application or make an appointment if a new passport or renewal is required.
