Friend,
Asking for money is the least fun thing to do in the world. So why do we
do it? Â
Because if we don't remind people that Common Dreams is entirely
supported by our readers, we will quite simply-and, yes, I mean
literally-cease to exist. Â
There's no backup plan. This is the model because it's the only one we
know that allows us to be beholden to nobody but you. Poof! Where did
they go? They're gone. Â
Our coverage of the climate emergency and the voices of those demanding
the rapid transition to a 100% renewable energy future? Gone. Â
Our focus on corporate greed and the global scourge of economic
inequality? Toast. Â
Our consistent opposition to endless war and all the cruelty and waste
that goes with it? History. Â
We remain $49,000 short of the goal we need to reach by the end of this
week to keep the lights on, the staff paid, the coffee stocked, and the
computers humming. Â
The situation is dire, but I thank you from the depths for any support
you can offer today. It's the least fun thing in the world, but we
wouldn't have it any other way.
