Friend,

Asking for money is the least fun thing to do in the world. So why do we do it?

Because if we don't remind people that Common Dreams is entirely supported by our readers, we will quite simply—and, yes, I mean literally—cease to exist.

There's no backup plan. This is the model because it's the only one we know that allows us to be beholden to nobody but you. Poof! Where did they go? They're gone.

Our coverage of the climate emergency and the voices of those demanding the rapid transition to a 100% renewable energy future? Gone.

Our focus on corporate greed and the global scourge of economic inequality? Toast.

Our consistent opposition to endless war and all the cruelty and waste that goes with it? History.

We remain $49,000 short of the goal we need to reach by the end of this week to keep the lights on, the staff paid, the coffee stocked, and the computers humming.

The situation is dire, but I thank you from the depths for any support you can offer today. It's the least fun thing in the world, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

With true urgency and sincerity,

Jon Queally
