Gerontological Society Recognizes Reinhard for Outstanding Contributions

The Gerontological Society of America salutes AARP senior vice president Susan C. Reinhard, PhD, RN, FAAN, with its Barbara J. Berkman Award, given for outstanding interdisciplinary research, practice, or policy in aging and health care. Reinhard is director of AARP Public Policy Institute and chief strategist of both family caregiving initiatives and the Center to Champion Nursing in America.

Indiana&rsquo;s Holistic Admissions Effort Earns HRSA Funds

The Indiana Nursing Education, Engagement, and Diversity Statewide Initiative (NEEDS), initially funded by the Campaign for Action&rsquo;s Nursing Innovations Fund, shows how holistic admissions is working&mdash;that strategy that, as the American Association of Colleges of Nursing puts it, &ldquo;assesses an applicant&rsquo;s unique experiences alongside traditional measures.&rdquo; The success earned the NEEDS program a $2.2 million grant from HRSA.

&ldquo;Coalition of Coalitions&rdquo; Equal Greater Health Equity in N.C.

Project RARE (Reciprocal, Authentic, Relationships for Equity) planned to combine forces with an array of partners to improve health equity with its Innovations Fund award in 2020. But the collaboration between the North Carolina Action Coalition and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University started earlier, growing into a powerful coalition of nurses, nursing students, pastors, and church congregations.

Students Learn About Nursing First-Hand, and Hands On

Middle school students in Delaware had their eyes opened to career opportunities in nursing when school nurses from Brandywine School District turned their Nursing Innovations Fund award into action. Children from groups underrepresented in nursing participating in the Brandywine Lifesavers program were inspired by the hands-on lessons from nurses.
