We’ve known this day was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier. With a 6-3 conservative majority, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

We’re still processing our emotional reaction to this monumental assault on personal autonomy. While we may not know the full extent of the real-world fallout yet, we’ve already begun to see how this is impacting people in a very real way already. We also know, as the three dissenters warned, that more is coming – the conservatives' approach in the Dobbs ruling "places in jeopardy other rights, from contraception to same-sex intimacy and marriage."

For now, we have just one thing to say: Fuck bans. Fight back. You can find everything you need to fight back at votesaveamerica.com/roe, but here’s a rundown of all the ways you can take action right now.

Protect Patients Right Now
The first, and most important thing we can do is minimize the harm that this ruling will inflict. One way to do that is to support our [Immediate Impact Fund]([link removed]). All funds raised go directly to local abortion funds, independent clinics, and legal defense for patients.

Fight Back at the Ballot Box
Look, we know that talking about voting doesn’t feel like enough right now because, well, we’ve been voting and that got us here. But this work doesn’t start or end in Congress. For example, at the state level, in places like Colorado, Democrats won power and delivered in protecting abortion. The conservative movement has been fighting for this outcome for decades, gaining power in local and state offices and reshaping the judiciary with ideological activist judges. We have a lot of work to do to fight back, but the good news is that this kind of community-based, year-round organizing and power building has been growing, and we’re prepared to invest in the future. This isn’t about Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer, but about the movement that we need to build for abortion rights, democracy, and so much more.

One place to start is with our [Fight Back Fund]([link removed]), which supports grassroots organizing and power-building organizations in states where we can make a difference, as well as ballot measures in four states. By contributing, you can help local activists defend abortion rights this year and build towards the future.

[DONATE TO FIGHT BACK]([link removed])

Another way to get involved is by [signing up for Midterm Madness]([link removed]). One of the worst ways this moment could end is if people get angry for two weeks, and then falling into apathy or despair. We need to be committed to this work year-round, and not just in election years. By [signing up for Midterm Madness]([link removed]), you’ll be able to make a difference in winnable races in 2022 in places where the future of abortion access is at stake—like the governor’s races in Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Arizona—and work with the organizations that are embedded in local communities doing the work it will take to build our power in the long term.

Learn More and Share Information for Patients
One of the immediate results of this decision will be confusion, especially for patients in places where the state of abortion law is up in the air. [Here are some important information and resources you can share with your networks that can help.]([link removed])

There will be a lot to process in the coming days, and fortunately we know a few great experts who can help us do it.

If you haven’t already,[subscribe to the Strict Scrutiny podcast]([link removed]), where they will be releasing an emergency episode later today to help break this decision down.

Then, this Tuesday, June 28th, join Strict co-host Leah Litman, Hysteria’s Erin Ryan, Imani Gandy, Senior Editor of Law and Policy for Rewire News Group, and the teams from Vote Save America and Sister District for a live virtual event, After Roe: Reproductive and Civil Rights Move to States, where we’ll discuss what this means, what comes next, and how we can fight back. [RSVP today.]([link removed])

Thank you for fighting back with us. Please take time to take care of yourself, and when you’re ready, we hope you’ll join us in this movement.
