I am overwhelmed, John. I remember sitting in the Senate gallery in 2013, watching our lawmakers fail to pass an assault weapons ban after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School and feeling the devastation in the room, but now we can finally celebrate the first step in the passage of gun violence prevention legislation that will save lives.
We deserve to celebrate this victory, we’ve gotten this far because of the support of all of you. But we can’t stop our fight – in fact, we have to keep pushing harder than ever, particularly after a Supreme Court ruling that threatens existing gun laws as we know them.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is on the way to the House and if passed, will go onto President Biden’s desk for signature. We need all of our grassroots activists to keep their voices loud in this moment and call on the House to pass this lifesaving legislation.
