It is celebrated every June 19th and has been a federal holiday since 2021 when it was signed into by law President Joe Biden. Juneteenth commemorates when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned they were free. The Confederate army surrendered in April 1865 ending the Civil War. However, word did not reach the last enslaved people until June 19th when union soldiers brought the news to slaves in Galveston, Texas. This was over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation freeing slaves was signed by Abraham Lincoln. FLORIDA'S ELECTION QUALIFYING PERIOD ENDED JUNE 17TH Meet Our New Florida State Senator Elect, District 29, Erin Grall Meet Our New Indian River County School Board Member Elect, District, 1 Dr. Gene Posca ELECTION INTEGRITY The 2020 Election may be history, but the election is far from over as states deal with election integrity issues. State legislatures are still enacting laws, states are changing administrative rules and all of it is entangled in litigation from both Republicans and Democrats. The synopsis provided by Peter Feaman, National Committeeman for Florida is much too long to share in this newsletter. Shared by Peter M. Feaman National Committeeman for Florida [email protected] Please see the four documents linked below. One tracks pending state administrative rulemaking; the second tracks election-related state legislation; the third lists important pending litigation, including cases in which the RNC is involved; and a fourth are talking points, that as an Republican, you may use to address specific Election Integrity legislation, litigation, or events currently in progress Election Regulatory, Directive, and Initiative Tracker Election Legislation Tracker Voting Litigation Overview Talking Points GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS DeSantis Signs Immigration Bill, Announces New Measures The Governor is taking the next step in his plan to crack down on illegal immigration with a plan to fight back against Biden’s “sanctuary federal government.” DeSantis signed legislation and announced initiatives to take more action against illegal immigration at the state level after accusing the Democratic President of violating his oath of office. Among them, DeSantis announced the implementation of a law enforcement strike force on drug and human trafficking, as well as immigrants who are in the country illegally and carrying firearms illegally. The Governor also petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to impanel a grand jury on human trafficking and smuggling. Children’s COVID-19 Vaccine Not Recommended in Florida Florida providers can now start ordering doses designed for children between 6 months and 5 years old. DeSantis told reporters Thursday that the state would continue recommending against vaccinating healthy children. The advisory from the Florida Department of Health won’t prevent parents from choosing to vaccinate their children, but it does mean they won’t be able to go to state and public health departments to get those shots. The issue breathed new life into the political posturing between DeSantis and President Joe Biden, as both administrations traded verbal attacks over vaccines. Never Back Down Governor DeSantis was invited to speak at the Jewish Leadership Conference last weekend in New York City to share the success of Florida’s blueprint for protecting religious freedom. New York politicians and Leftists tried to pressure the venue to cancel the event, but Governor DeSantis stood strong and told the packed crowd, “They tried to cancel me. But here I stand.” Putting Students First, Protecting Parents' Rights On Wednesday, Governor DeSantis launched the DeSantis Education Agenda, a blueprint for pro-parent school board candidates and members in Florida. The program is a statewide agenda for school board candidates and members who are committed to empowering the role of parents in their children’s education and preventing far-Left agendas from infiltrating the state’s public school systems. Every parent in Florida should ask their school board candidates if they have pledged to support the DeSantis Education Agenda. “Florida has delivered the most student-focused, parent-centered education agenda in the nation at a time when curriculum in states around the country are being used as opportunities to indoctrinate innocent children,” said Governor DeSantis Read more about the initiative in The Federalist. Florida State Guard Governor DeSantis announced the re-establishment of the Florida State Guard, an emergency-focused civilian volunteer force. By bringing back the Florida State Guard, Florida now joins 22 other states and territories with state-level defense forces. Florida will add 400 members to the Guard to respond to this year’s hurricane season, and more than 1,200 individuals have already expressed interest in joining. The Governor stated that “the U.S. military has been kicking out great service members over the Biden administration’s unacceptable COVID vaccine mandate, and they are even targeting members of the National Guard. The bureaucrats in D.C. who control our National Guard have also refused to increase the number of guardsmen despite our increasing population, leaving Florida with the second worst National Guardsmen to resident ratio. By reestablishing the Florida State Guard under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Graham, we have a great opportunity to expand our capability to help people in times of need or disaster.” Addressing the Fatherlessness Problem “There are more than 18 million children in our country who live without a father in their home. This has a severe impact on children, and often leads to dropping out of school, crime, and substance abuse. Incredibly, there are those who diminish the importance of fatherhood and the nuclear family — we will not let that happen in our state. I am proud to say we are doing everything we can to support involved fatherhood in Florida.” Read more about Governor DeSantis’s efforts to tackle the fatherlessness crisis in The Daily Wire. ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHLEY MOODY World Elder Abuse Day Educates on Human Rights World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, June 15, Attorney General Ashley Moody highlighted efforts to protect Florida seniors. Attorney General Moody’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates allegations of patient abuse, neglect and exploitation in facilities receiving payments under the Medicaid program, such as nursing homes, organizations for the mentally and physically disabled, and assisted living centers. Since 2019, MFCU investigations have resulted in the arrests of 41 suspects in cases involving the abuse, exploitation, or neglect of Florida seniors. Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Protecting vulnerable Floridians is a mission close to my heart and I am proud of the work my Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigators do to stop patient abuse, exploitation, and neglect. Their work not only stops the ongoing mistreatment of seniors, but it also prevents future atrocities by bringing to justice criminals who take advantage of defenseless Floridians.” World Elder Abuse Awareness Day serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations and communities working to end elder abuse, including financial exploitation, neglect, and scams. Attorney General Moody’s MFCU works toward this mission in cases involving the Medicaid program. Generally speaking, instances of abuse outside the Medicaid program fall under the jurisdiction of local law enforcement, who work in close partnership with MFCU. Below are a few examples of cases: Former Assisted Living Employee Arrested for Striking 87-Year-Old Alzheimer’s Resident in the Face Assisted Living Facility Supervisor Arrested for Neglect of a 98-Year-Old Wheelchair-Bound Resident Attorney General Moody Takes Action Against Man Who Used Power of Attorney to Steal More Than $40,000 from Florida Senior Woman Arrested for Exploiting $14,000 from Elderly Adult in a Nursing Home To report an abuse situation, individuals may use the Florida Abuse Hotline by calling 1(800) 96-ABUSE, or report online at the Florida Department of Children and Families Abuse Hotline webpage. Additionally, Attorney General Moody’s Consumer Protection Division and Senior Protection Team work to stop scams and fraud targeting older Floridians. The teams have recovered millions of dollars through legal actions involving scams aimed at Florida seniors. Help for Parents on Social Media Drug Sales to Kids This week, the Attorney General issued a warning for parents—drug dealers are using social media to sell dangerous, sometimes deadly substances to kids. Minors may be increasingly susceptible to these digital dealers during the summer, when they have more free time to spend online. Using some of the most popular apps to target children, these digital dealers claim to have prescription opioids for sale, but they often deliver counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl instead. Just two milligrams of fentanyl are enough to kill a full-grown adult. The scary part is users often have no idea what they are taking, and too many parents have found out too late that just one pill can kill. The AG has released Fast Facts on Fentanyl Toolkit to help parents keep their children safe. The kit is full of information highlighting the dangers of synthetic opioids and how drug dealers operate. For example, dealers may use emoji codes to conduct illicit transactions. Here are some of the more common drug codes: Prescription Drugs: 💊🅿️ 🍫 Dealer Advertising: 💰🔌🍁 Cocaine: ❄️⛄🔑 Marijuana: 💨🌲🔥 Parents should use the toolkit as a conversation starter with their kids about the risks of drug abuse. CONGRESSMAN BILL POSEY President Donald Trump Endorses Bill Posey to Fight for Florida President Donald Trump issued a strong public endorsement of Conservative Congressman Bill Posey, who represents Florida’s 8th Congressional District and has been one of the biggest advocates for conservative values and government accountability in Congress. “Congressman Bill Posey is doing a phenomenal job for the incredible people of Florida’s 8th Congressional District! A Conservative Warrior, Bill has consistently fought to uphold the rule of law, grow our economy, defend the second amendment, support our veterans and law enforcement, and drain the swamp,” said President Trump. “It is a true honor to have the support and endorsement of President Trump,” said Posey. “While working together to serve the people of the United States, President Trump and I championed policies that put America first. Now, I am proud to continue our work and fight the good fight for our great nation.” Posey Legislation Deputizes States to Enforce Border Laws Working with Attorney General Ashley Moody, Congressman Posey has introduced legislation to allow state officials to force the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security to enforce immigration laws or deputize state officials to carry out their federal immigration duties. Posey has been a strong advocate of enforcing our laws and securing our borders from human traffickers, drug smugglers and other violent criminals seeking access to our communities. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, since President Biden took office, the amount of fentanyl seized at the border is enough to kill every man, woman and child in the nation more than seven times over and has become the number one killer of adults aged 18-45 with Mexico being the main source. If the federal government won’t enforce our border laws, states have a duty to protect their citizens, said Posey. Other Posey initiatives to secure our borders include: Introduced Border Wall Trust Fund Act (H.R. 416), enabling Americans to contribute to border wall/fence construction. Ending the Visa Lottery Program which gives out 50,000 lottery entry visas a year regardless of skills or affiliations (H.R. 413) Deporting criminal aliens (H.R. 2003) Original cosponsor of the Secure the Southern Border Act to reinstate and make law the successful Trump era immigration policies that secured our border and reduced the flow of immigrants at our southern border to a trickle. Posey’s Bipartisan Supply Chain Initiative Advances Bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressman Posey to strengthen American manufacturing supply chain resilience and reduce our dependence on foreign powers like China for critically needed products advanced through the House. The bill establishes a nonpartisan commission tasked with studying the U.S. critical supply chain, identifying its vulnerabilities, predicting future supply-chain disruptions, and guiding Congress on meeting critical supply-chain needs and mitigating dependence on foreign powers like China. SENATOR MARCO RUBIO Rubio Gains Law Enforcement Endorsement Sen. Marco Rubio again bested his opponent Democratic Rep. Val Demings' effort to highlight her police background when he announced Friday, he’d received the endorsement of the Florida Fraternal Order of Police in their U.S. Senate contest. The endorsement, made in Demings’ backyard in Lake Buena Vista, is yet another that Rubio has landed from law enforcement ranks. It followed endorsements of the Police Benevolent Association, 55 Florida Sheriffs, and the Florida Police Chiefs Association. Demings' campaign has been running statewide TV ads lauding her 27 years as an Orlando cop, including almost four as Orlando Police Chief. Rubio Vows to Block White House Push for Abortion ‘Public-Health Emergency’ Sen. Marco Rubio warned Friday that he will fight any attempt by the Biden administration to declare a “public-health emergency” on abortion after the Supreme Court rules on a challenge to Roe v. Wade. President Biden has indicated that he may use executive orders to circumvent red state moves to restrict abortion, depending on how the high court rules on a pending case. Among the moves eyed by the White House reportedly includes the declaration of a public-health emergency to preserve access to abortion. Unity - Calling All Republicans Time to Come Together!
