Weekly Wrap Up Friend, Fighting for Iowa agriculture is a top priority for me in Congress. Farmers need bipartisan investments and support, not government overreach and bureaucratic regulatory roadblocks. I will always work across the aisle for our producers. This week major, hard-fought victories for Iowa agriculture passed the House, including my bipartisan PRECISE Act and legislation I helped introduce, the Year-Round Fuel Choice Act. I’ve heard from farmers from across the district about the benefits of precision agriculture technology. These tools increase crop yields while simultaneously lowering input costs, decreasing nutrient runoff, and conserving our environment—but these are also extremely expensive to start using, especially for our family farms. This bill would expand access to precision agriculture technology through existing USDA programs that farmers already know and trust. We should harness the knowledge and experience within the agriculture community to provide innovative solutions to the climate challenge and empower farmers with the tools they trust to continue to be conscious stewards of our land, not tell them how to do their job – and that is exactly what the PRECISE Act will do. One of my top priorities in Washington has been promoting Iowa biofuels and allowing for the sale of year-round E-15. With House passage of the Year-Round Fuel Choice Act, we are one step closer to making that a reality. Increasing biofuel blends in transportation fuel will bring down the cost at the pump and help replenish our fuel supply. With gas prices at a record high and our Strategic Petroleum Reserve at a 35-year low, Iowa biofuels should be front and center in our all-of-the-above energy strategy. House passage of these bills is critical victory for the Iowa agriculture community and our rural economy. It's my honor to fight for our farmers in Congress, and I'll continue working in a bipartisan way to deliver wins for Iowa agriculture. Best, Sixth 20 County Tour Complete I wrapped up my sixth tour of all 20 counties in the district today! From holding town hall meetings in Poweshiek, Marshall, Bremer, and Clayton Counties, to seeing made-in-Iowa products in Tama, Dubuque, and Benton Counties, touring flood mitigation projects in Linn County, and also visiting incredible organizations like Camp Courageous in Jones County today—there’s nothing more important to me than hearing directly from Iowans. That’s why I’ll continue to tell your stories in Washington to show the real world impact of a $5 gallon of gas in a rural community and the harm inflation is inflicting on our Main Street businesses. I will continue to propose real solutions to these challenges. It’s an honor to serve you and your families in Washington. Watch Here Hearing from You Camp Courageous (Jones County) It was great to tour Camp Courageous in Monticello today. For over 50 years, Camp Courageous has provided those with special needs a home away from home. They’ve touched countless lives over the years and I am grateful for their selfless work! Iowa Community Health Centers Always great to catch up with the Iowa Community Health Centers and I was proud to receive their 2022 Distinguished Community Health Center Advocate Award. We’ll continue working together to ensure all Iowans—regardless of their zip code or income level—can receive quality care. Clean Fuels Alliance America It was great to have Clean Fuel Alliance in Washington this week to discuss ways we can work together to support Iowa biofuels and secure our energy independence by increasing the use of domestic ethanol. Iowa State University It was a pleasure to meet with Iowa State President Wendy Wintersteen this week. She got me up to speed on the latest at Iowa State ahead of the next academic year. Go Cyclones! Home Builders Association of Iowa I heard more from the Home Builders Association of Iowa about the ripple effect inflation is having throughout their industry. From costly materials, to labor shortages, to shipping delays – building a home has become increasingly expensive and more difficult. I appreciated their input as I work on solutions to bring down the cost of building and buying a home! National Federation of Independent Business Enjoyed meeting with the National Federation of Independent Businesses this week. As Main Street shops in Iowa and across the country struggle with inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain issues, we'll continue working together on behalf of our small business job creators and workers. Community Highlights My team participated in the Iowa Watershed Approach Celebration and Project Bus Tour in Benton County this week. These projects are vital for flood mitigation and improving water quality in the community.
