John,

Federal survey data matters, and right now, LGBTQ+ people aren't being counted.

Why do federal surveys matter? Policymakers use data from federal surveys to understand inequality and allocate resources (amounting to billions of dollars) to specific issues, places, and communities in need.

Tell Congress: Count LGBTQ+ People [[link removed]]

For over 20 years, GLSEN's National School Climate Survey [[link removed]] has shown that LGBTQ+ youth frequently experience bullying, discrimination, and other forms of victimization in K–12 schools simply because they are LGBTQ+.

Amid relentless attacks on LGBTQ+ students by right-wing lawmakers, we’re proud to see President Biden issue an Executive Order [[link removed].] to protect queer and trans students everywhere. In addition to healthcare and school safety, the White House included recommendations for collecting data on the experiences of LGBTQ+ students.

And now it’s time for Congress to act.

Tell Congress to pass the LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act. [[link removed]]

For LGBTQ+ justice, we must include the experiences of young people on a federal level.

In solidarity,

Aaron Ridings

Chief of Staff and Deputy Executive Director for Public Policy and Research
