June is Pride MonthJune is a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ individuals – their resilience, their triumphs, and the beauty of the queer community. It’s also a time to examine the challenges and prejudices this community still faces. According to the

Human Rights Campaign , LGBTQ+ youth are more likely to end up homeless or in the foster care system – and once in the system, they can face additional barriers for placement, and even discrimination.

First Day of Summer
June 20 marks the first day of summer – but we all know that temperatures in Phoenix heat up well before then! Heat-related illness is a serious health concern for all residents, but is especially worrisome for individuals experiencing homelessness. While unhoused individuals account for .002% of the population of Maricopa County, this vulnerable population accounts for over 50% of the heat-related deaths experienced in that same geographic area.

To help save lives in these hot summer months, the City of Phoenix has implemented Heat Relief Stations all over the valley – where anyone can go to cool down and get free water.
