First Day of Summer
June 20 marks the first day of summer – but we all know that temperatures in Phoenix heat up well before then! Heat-related illness is a serious health concern for all residents, but is especially worrisome for individuals experiencing homelessness. While unhoused individuals account for .002% of the population of Maricopa County, this vulnerable population accounts for over 50% of the heat-related deaths experienced in that same geographic area.
To help save lives in these hot summer months, the City of Phoenix has implemented Heat Relief Stations all over the valley – where anyone can go to cool down and get free water. Locate station locations across the valley!

Build Heat Relief Kits for the Human Services Campus – contact [email protected] for details. Heat Relief Kits deliver much-needed items to serve the immediate needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, such as bottled water, sunscreen and socks.
