A Birthday & An Anniversary!

Today is the anniversary of two significant days in American history: the birthday of the US Army
[link removed], and Flag Day
[link removed] !

The Army was created by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775
[link removed] . George Washington was elected Commander-in-Chief
[link removed] the next day and issued orders for the military, including one declaring
[link removed] :

The blessings and protection of Heaven are at all times necessary...The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor [to] live and act as becomes a Christian Soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.

The Army has continuously been recognized throughout American history. Such as by Frederick Douglass who reminded the nation
[link removed] :

We must never forget that the loyal soldiers who rest beneath this sod flung themselves between the nation and the nation destroyers. [I]f the Star-Spangled Banner floats only over free American citizens in every quarter of the land...we are indebted to the unselfish devotion of the noble army who rest in these honored graves all around us.

General George Marshall also spoke about the United States' mission
[link removed] during WWII:

We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777
[link removed] when the Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing the look of the first national flag. The first Flag Day
[link removed] celebration occurred in 1885 as a school celebration in Wisconsin. The idea of honoring our flag spread across the country
[link removed] and President Woodrow Wilson eventually issued a 1916 presidential proclamation
[link removed] recognizing Flag Day. Since then, generations have continued to celebrate the American flag
[link removed] .

Today, let's celebrate the American Army and all our military who so ably defend our flag, our God-given freedoms, and God-blessed nation!
