John – In the wake of multiple mass shootings, including Buffalo and Uvalde, the House of Representatives finally took some action and passed a series of new bills to address gun safety this week.
But not every Democrat was on board.
While five Republicans joined the Democrats to pass the bills, four Democrats voted against several key provisions. One of them should be a familiar name to you: Henry Cuellar.

Cuellar voted against raising the minimum age to purchase AR-15 weapons, the style of gun used in both the Buffalo and Uvalde massacres, AND against banning high capacity magazines.
Let’s be clear: the Democratic bill was already a weak response to the plague of American gun violence.
Nearly 75% of Americans support raising the age to purchase ANY gun (not just assault weapons like the AR-15).
83% of gun owners support universal background checks – something the bills passed in the House did not address.
51% of Americans support a total ban on assault weapons like the AR-15.
But Henry Cuellar couldn’t even get on the same page with his own party’s bill – which is not that shocking given his A-rating from the NRA.
Reminder - Henry Cuellar’s district is only 80 miles from Uvalde.
The House bill did pass, however. And now it goes to the Senate where it is not expected to pass thanks to the filibuster and conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin.
It’s never been more clear that we need to elect representatives who answer to the people, not lobbyists and corporations. Can you pitch in now to support BNC’s vital work to elect unbought, working class representatives? [[link removed]]

This year we have a chance to elect our first BNC Senator by helping Charles Booker defeat Rand Paul in November.
We also have five BNC electeds up for reelection, and more BNC primaries ahead.
Too many races this year have been decided by razor thin margins, John.
BNC’s Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won her primary by just FIVE votes. Jessica Cisneros is headed into a recount only 281 votes behind Cuellar.
Your sustaining support could be the deciding factor in whether or not we send another progressive to Congress. If you’re able to commit to a small monthly contribution in any amount, click here: [link removed] [[link removed]]

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. We invest EARLY to help grassroots candidates succeed. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020 alongside Jamaal Bowman and Rashida Tliab. And we have our first win of 2022: Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won her primary by FIVE votes thanks to BNC.
We have elections from now until November, and our candidates are counting on your support. Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
