New Dems Release "Best Inflation-Fighting Blueprint to Come Out of Congress Yet" to Fight Inflation and Cut Costs for Americans ([link removed])
* This week the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) released a comprehensive action plan to fight inflation ([link removed]) , lower the cost of living for Americans, and secure the long-term fiscal future of the nation. Specifically, New Dems called on the President to roll back costly and ineffective Trump-era tariffs, address the workforce shortage by updating immigration policies, and work to lower costs on everyday necessities, including housing, energy, and health care. New Dems called on Congressional leadership to quickly finalize a bipartisan innovation bill, negotiate a strong reconciliation bill focused on fighting inflation, and use every legislative week to advance an affordability agenda on the House floor.

* NDC Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52) penned an op-ed in Fox ([link removed]) about the New Dem Action Plan to Fight Inflation, emphasizing that New Dems will work closely with the Biden administration and members on both sides of the aisle and Capitol to tackle inflation and lower costs for Americans.

New Dems Urge Department of Commerce to Prioritize Rural America with Supply Chain and Innovation Investments ([link removed])

House Passes Brown and Slotkin’s Common Sense Gun Violence Prevention Bills ([link removed])
Reps. Anthony Brown (MD-04) and Elissa Slotkin’s (MI-08) bills, the Raise the Age Act and the Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act passed the House this week as a part of the Protecting Our Kids Act. Browns’ Raise the Age Act ([link removed]) raises the purchasing age for semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21, and Slotkin’s Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act ([link removed]) strengthens safe storage requirements to protect children from accidental shootings.

House Passes McBath and Carbajal Bill to Issue ‘Red Flag’ Laws and Curb Gun Violence ([link removed])
Rep. Lucy McBath’s (GA-07) H.R. 2377 ([link removed]) Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, which includes provisions from Rep. Salud Carbajal’s (CA-24) ([link removed]) H.R. 3480 ([link removed]) Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, passed the House this week. This legislation establishes procedures for federal courts to issue extreme risk protection orders (also known as ‘red flag’ laws) and create incentives for more states to adopt extreme risk protection order laws

House Passes Crow’s Bill to Help Small Businesses Offer On-The-Job Learning Opportunities & Relieve the Labor Shortage ([link removed])
Rep. Jason Crow’s (CO-06) bipartisan bill H.R. 7622, ([link removed]) the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act passed the House this week. This legislation will help more small businesses offer apprenticeships and on-the-job learning opportunities to their workers.

Casten and Crow Introduce Legislation to Transition the Department of Defense Away From Fossil Fuels ([link removed])
Reps. Sean Casten (IL-6) and Jason Crow (CO-6) introduced H.R.7882 ([link removed]) to protect U.S. troops abroad by strengthening the Department of Defense’s clean energy goals. The bill transitions the DoD away from its reliance on fossil fuels, which is a strategic and operational weakness for U.S. forces, and towards clean energy. It thus curbs climate change risk while addressing national security and troop safety risks.

Schneider and Torres Re-introduce Legislation to Require Multiple Firearm Sales Reporting ([link removed])
In the wake of recent tragic mass shootings, New Dem Leadership Member Brad Schneider (IL-10) and Rep. Norma Torres (CA-35) re-introduced H.R. 7904 ([link removed]) , the Multiple Firearm Sales Reporting Modernization Act of 2022 to require all federal firearms licensees to report the sale of two or more long guns. The bill will require licensees to report the sale of weapons including semi-automatic rifles like AR-15 and AK-47 within a 5-day period.

Axne Introduces Legislation to Protect Renters in Federally Backed Housing ([link removed])
Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) introduced H.R. 7911 ([link removed]) the Safe at Home Act to protect renters living in federally subsidized housing. The bill would require increased oversight of rental properties backed by USDA and HUD to address the underinvestment and lack of inspection and oversight in federally backed housing and ensure landlords are maintaining safe, quality housing conditions.

Kilmer Introduces Legislation to Invest in Digital Skills and Literacy ([link removed])
NDC Chair Emeritus Derek Kilmer (WA-06) introduced H.R. 7785 ([link removed]) , the Investing in Digital Skills Act to prioritize digital skills and digital literacy. The bill amends the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act so that it recognizes digital skills and literacy as critical adult education objectives necessary for employment and economic self-sufficiency.
