From Politics to Pizza, Excesses Are Always Their Own Undoing

By: Paul Batura

In what’s being hailed as an historic recall election, San Francisco voters on Tuesday ousted District Attorney Chesa Boudin – a far left figure whose policies many believe have led to a dramatic spike in city crime.

Nima Rahimi of the California Democrat Party Executive Board recently opined: “Personally, I believe Boudin harms our party’s goals on criminal justice reform, in part, because people have died and will continue to die as a result of his choices and his policies. We have to hold our own accountable.”

From big cities like San Francisco to smaller school boards around the country, a common theme has been emerging. Frustrated citizens are becoming irritated voters. Weary and alarmed by the consequences of radical policies, they’re voicing their objections by voting, saying, in effect, “Enough is enough!”

On Fatherlessness and Mass Shootings

By: The Daily Citizen

As the unspeakable evil of mass shootings continue to increase, each of us is trying to understand what could be driving these tragedies. There is no shortage of explanations being bandied about with absolute certainty, from ineffectual gun control laws, mental illness, peer bullying, first-person shooter video games, violence in movies and television shows, and growing personal anger and alienation. Fatherlessness has even been mentioned as a driver. Others strongly deny the linkage and blame guns.

Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, considered the role of family breakdown and fatherlessness in a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Lee said, “Every time one of these tragedies occurs, for too long we have failed to look back at the root causes of rampage violence. Why is our culture all of sudden producing so many young men who want to murder innocent people?” Lee continued, “It raises the question, could fatherlessness, the break-down of the family, isolation from civil society or the glorification of violence be contributing factors?”

The Senator is asking important questions. But others disagree.

A faculty member at the highly conservative Brigham Young University recently opined in the Mormon-owned Deseret News that “as a sociologist of family and fatherhood, I can tell you that the best available evidence suggests that neither is responsible for the increase in these horrific events.”

Federal Judge Refuses to Protect High School Christian Club from Harassment, De-recognition

By: Bruce Hausknecht

A federal judge has refused to order a school district in San Jose, California, to reinstate a student club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), to official recognition after complaints from a high school teacher about the club’s Christian values started a chain of events that resulted in the revocation of its status district wide.

United States District Judge Haywood S. Gilliam, Jr., appointed to the federal bench in 2014 by President Barack Obama, issued a ruling on June 1 denying FCA’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have restored FCA’s status as an approved club in the San Jose Unified School District while litigation proceeds over FCA’s claim that its federal rights were violated.

The controversy began during the 2018-19 school year, when officially recognized FCA clubs were meeting at three district high schools. FCA’s purpose for meeting is to engage in religious speech, study the Bible, encourage and support one another, and pray. FCA students, mostly athletes, also participate in service projects in their communities.

FCA allows anyone in the school to become a member but requires its student leaders to agree to live in accordance with FCA’s core religious beliefs and religious standards as expressed in the Student Leadership Application and FCA’s Statement of Faith. You won’t be surprised to hear that FCA’s Statement of Faith includes a “Purity Statement” that affirms the Bible’s teachings about marriage and sexuality.

Florida’s New Pro-Life Law Faces Legal Challenge by Planned Parenthood and ACLU

By: Nicole Hunt

In April, pro-life legislation was signed into law in Florida protecting preborn babies at 15 weeks gestation. Now the abortion industry is challenging this pro-life law set to go into effect on July 1.

The new pro-life measure is modeled after the Mississippi law protecting preborn babies in the womb at 15 weeks gestation. The Mississippi law is the source of the United States Supreme Court controversy over the so-called “constitutional right” to abortion.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the 15-week abortion restriction into law in mid-April – just a few weeks before the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was leaked to the press.

The pro-life measure, HB 5, limits abortion after 15 weeks of gestation, while including exceptions for the life of the mother and fatal fetal abnormalities.

At the time of the signing, Governor DeSantis said the legislation represented “the most significant protections for life that have been enacted in [Florida] in a generation.”
Previously, Florida law permitted abortion through 24 weeks gestation.

Now, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and the Center for Reproductive Rights have filed a complaint with a Florida circuit court to challenge the law.

So Which Is True: The LGBT Community is Under Siege, Or Powerful Enough to Coerce Corporate America?

By: Jeff Johnston

Two opinion pieces in the gay news outlet The Advocate demonstrate the contradictory, oxymoronic viewpoints presented by LGBT activists.

The first op-ed, “This Pride, the LGBTQ+ Community Is in Crisis,” was written by Joni Madison at the opening of “pride month,” when seemingly all of America is wrapped in the ever-expanding colors of the homosexual and transgender movement.

But no, not for Madison, the interim president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBT activist organization in the U.S., with total 2021 revenue of $71 million.

For her, LGBT-folks are a perpetually victimized class. She writes about “millions of LGBTQ+ people whose rights and lives – right now – are under attack.”

She cites legislation that shields children and teens from being irrevocably damaged by drugs, hormones and surgeries – what she calls “medically necessary care” – and says, “These attacks are horrific.”

Efforts to protect privacy and safety in showers, restrooms and locker rooms mean, for Madison, “Our LGBTQ+ community is in crisis. We are living in a state of emergency.”

She references laws that protect parental rights and keep children from being sexualized and confused in schools.
