Dear John,
We have just been notified that the U.S. House committee on Natural Resources will hold a legislative hearing on Rep. McCollum’s bill, the Boundary Waters Wilderness Protection and Pollution Prevention Act ! This is very exciting as it’s the next step toward her bill becoming law and permanently protecting the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park from sulfide-ore copper mining.
If there’s one thing you can do to help the Boundary Waters today, it is to call your Congressperson’s office [tel:202-224-3121] and ask that they support Rep. McCollum’s bill officially numbered H.R. 2794.
Please call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 [tel:202-224-3121] and follow the prompts to be connected to your U.S. House of Representative’s office. When connected simply say:
Hi, my name is John and I’m from ( the city you live! ) I am asking you to support H.R. 2794 to Protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from sulfide-ore copper mining.
It’s really as simple as that.
Unfortunately, Julie Padilla - an executive from the mining company, Twin Metals, is being asked to testify in favor of mining directly adjacent to the Boundary Waters. In March earlier this year in front of the U.S. Senate, she was asked point blank if Twin Metals can guarantee no risk to the Wilderness and she callously compared mining to driving without a seatbelt and said “…certainly we have that risk…” directly referencing that Twin Metals knows their proposed mine is not “safe.”
Twin Metals has the money, backed by their Chilean mining giant Antofagasta, to pour millions of dollars into convincing Congress it’s ok to sacrifice the Boundary Waters for their sole profit. But we have the majority of Minnesotans and people across this country who are not willing to sell out the Boundary Waters to the mining industry.
Please call today [tel:202-224-3121] , make your voice heard, and defend the Boundary Waters!
For the Wilderness,

P.S. I literally just called and it took me only 23 seconds. Thank you to my Rep. Phillips for supporting the Boundary Waters! Let’s see if you can get your Representative to support as well! Call 202-224-3121 and ask that they support H.R. 2794 to protect the Boundary Waters for all generations to come!
